2023-08-27 Greek Orthodox Matins/Orthros & Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom: 12th Sunday Matthew

LIVE High Definition (HD) broadcast of the Greek Orthodox Matins (Orthros/Morning Prayers) and Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom commemorating the 12th Sunday of Matthew.

The 12th Sunday of Matthew is the day that the Greek Orthodox Church commemorates the parable of a rich young ruler who asks Jesus how he can have eternal life. Jesus tells him to keep the commandments, sell his possessions, and give to the poor, so he will have treasure in heaven. The young ruler went away sorrowful for he had great possessions that he did not want to give up to follow Jesus. This Gospel reading teaches us about the importance of following Jesus’ teachings and not being too attached to material possessions.

The 12th Sunday of Matthew falls on different dates each year, depending on the date of Easter (Pascha). It is also known as the Sunday of the Rich Young Ruler.

Our Eastern Orthodox service is conducted mainly using English and Greek and streamed LIVE from Saint Mark Greek Orthodox Church in Boca Raton, Florida.
