17. Carthage – Empire of the Phoenicians

[AUDIO ONLY]

Buried beneath the city streets of the Tunisian capital of Tunis, an ancient city lies forgotten…

In this episode, we look at one of the most dramatic stories to come down to us from the ancient world: the rise and fall of the empire of Carthage. Find out how this city rose out of the Phoenician states of the Eastern Mediterranean, and set out on voyages of discovery and settlement that put them at the centre of the ancient world. And hear how the city of Carthage was destroyed, and its memory nearly wiped from the earth.

  1. Danke Danke Danke!

  2. The Hispanic were not a warlike people. They live for the most part in harmony despite their ethnic makeup. Which includes 7 races Turas, Gog(Brogii), Tarchich in the north; Elusitani in the west; Eberia(Bet-Zepani) and Kaftorians in the south. Plus Kettim(Greeks colonies) and Phoenikia on the coasts. A very integrated society. Capitol at TOLAD.

  3. The Phoenikia were decendants from Edom in arabia. From where these KHANAANITES: Sidonian, Hettite Amorite, fled north to POENIKE among the Kettim of the coast, later to Karta-Hatti capitol settled in LYBIA(Kettim) among the Maritime Magan(Mykene), KEDEM-(Medan, Midian). Suffering these native populations. 1300-100BC

  4. For someone who had listened to EVERY audiobook on Carthage, or even remotely associated with Carthage I must say that what you have produced here is masterful. Thank you very much.

  5. I just want to say thanks. It's nice to know there are some that understand. Sadly I don't think many Christians will take it to heart, but thanks for the effort.🙂

  6. I wonder why they chose the name phoenix for the mythical bird. Can't be for no reason. Possibly because no matter what the phonecians have found a way to survive or build back after war or being destroyed in war or natural disaster?while Carthage was completely eliminated other phoenician cities and colonies survived?

  7. These podcasts are an absolute wonder. I have more than a passing interest in ancient history, but even then I have learnt so much from the way you weave the rich tapestry of these otherwise forgotten societies through so many different lenses….. The fact you aren't on the BBC already to share these incredible stories needs to rectified fast! I cant thank you enough for the time you spend researching and producing these gems.
