As long as military vehicles have been used, misconceptions about them abound. Tanks are especially susceptible to this, thanks to movies giving us the wrong idea of what they can be capable of. According to some movies, a single tank can hold off an entire division with ease and be nearly unstoppable in the field. The reality, of course, is far different.

Tanks are like any other vehicle in that they can be amazingly adept but also prone to problems. Somehow, plenty of ridiculous misconceptions have been born regarding tanks, such as them being nearly unstoppable machines that can smash through anything with ease, U.S.-built ones being the best, and that, the heavier they are, the better they can be.

Of course, these and other beliefs are fallacies as modern tanks have advanced beyond what once existed to eliminate problems.
