  1. You two are awesome! We are arriving the first week of June with the kids, planning on staying in Maui/Kauai,I just purchased two itineraries Thursday thank goodness! So helpful

  2. If trying to save a little money, meal plan as much as possible and hit Costco in Maui for the meals you've all decided to make. It truly saved us tons with snacks. Saved the dinner for local dives.

  3. Biggest mistake I made was on our second trip to Maui. Do not plan TOO many activities that will take up a bunch of "windshield time". Do enough activities to make it worthwhile but be sure to enjoy the relaxing island vibe. Too much driving is less time for relaxing.

  4. One of the worst mistakes I made my first time to Maui was not taking mosquito repellent while visiting Twin Falls on road to Hana! I was absolutely attacked by mosquitos & uncomfortably itching the entire remainder of the trip! It was awful! 😫

  5. My 1st timer mistakes: overbooking. I wish I'd had more time to snorkel and chill.
My glad I did this: staying 2 nights on the Hana side of Maui.

Best advice for Kauai: plan to spend the entire day on 1 of the 4 sides of the island to avoid too much driving.

  6. Thanks again for another cool info video. I do all the planning and research for our trips to the islands 🏝. We rarely do tours unless it's the only way, like going to Halawa Valley on Moloka‘i or snorkeling at Napali coast. We bring our own snorkle gear and camelbacks with us. Also first aid kit. It's really expensive eating out all the time so getting a vrbo rental with kitchen is cheaper.

  7. I have a question for you guys as both tourism experts and as Hawaiian residents. My wife and I love to visit Maui in February every few years, but recently a lot is being written about overcrowding on the island. Residents are apparently upset over the amount of tourists, and even people working in the tourism industry are said to be feeling the strain from the sheer volume of people. We love Maui, and we'd love to go back sometime, but we also don't want to be part of the problem. Our enjoyment of such a beautiful land isn't worth it If the current state of tourism threatens to cause issues for native islanders and other residents. Obviously the idea of too many people also conflicts with the small-scale, laid back vibe we love about the island, but more than anything we don't want to be unwelcome guests contributing to the unhappiness of the host residents.

I guess my questions are: have you witnessed significantly more crowds on Maui (or in the state overall) post-pandemic? If so, has it caused any notable increase in tension or unhappiness among residents? Is it worth putting off another visit for a few extra years in hopes of giving the island(s) a chance to breathe and maybe even slow back down a bit? Thanks for listening, love your channel!

  8. I checked out the Get Wet Store! They’re new to me. I need to update my rx mask. I’ll certainly shop there when we have a trip planned. Thanks for the great video and all the answers!

  9. Warning about Mama's: we just tried to book dinner for the end of June/early July… no availability until mid-July. So we settled for lunch, since we've never been. Lots of lunch time slots still available. This will be our fourth time to Maui and we've never been able to book dinner. This place is super popular, so book as soon as you know you're going!

  10. When I was in Maui in 2018, I did parasailing, a helicopter tour & finally a Lula. This was out of my comfort zone; but now I am glad I did it. Try something new on your vacation. You will not regret it. Aloha 🌴😎🤟

  11. The advice to not snorkel the day after you get to Hawaii is good, and one I wish I knew before I went last year.😂 (however, you do kind of contradict yourself by suggesting snorkeling Molikini while jet lagged). Not snorkeling during hi tide is also advisable. You’d think it would be common sense. 😂. But I was so eager to get in the water as it had been years since I last snorkeled, that I ignored my instincts. 😂
Coulda done without the dead boar pic near the end, but that’s me.

  12. Do not leave valuables in your car. You should absolutely drive places and explore, but just be sure that you take your belongings with you. It's good advice everywhere and sometimes it's hard to remember things like that while on vacation. Bring only what you need, and take it with you.

  13. When I went to Oahu recently, I rented a car but didn’t even use it much so it was a waste of money to me. Parking spots are very limited too. So we walked everywhere around Honolulu and it was so fun. The tour buses and guides were great for us first timers to explore the scenic spots and beaches when you don’t know where to start.

  14. I think a mistake is to underestimate how long it takes to get from place to place. Most of the roads are 2 lane, and can back up. Plan for that so you’re not feeling rushed and anxious! The first time I went up Haleakala, it was rainy/sleet and cloudy. The next time I went up, I almost didn’t go because of the clouds – but did. It was clear above the clouds and amazing. And 2 weeks ago, got to do the night time manta ray snorkel – it was amazing. 🙂
