  1. Love the honesty! Easiest solution with City of Kings is to give it to me. It has been on my wishlist ever since I found out about it. I love everything else that Frank has released, so I feel like I would love this one as well.

  2. Too bad you won't get that copy of everdell because they'll say that it doesn't qualify for replacement, here's a 20 dollar coupon for our store that expires January 1st 2023. Fuck Starling Games

  3. Cloudspire – my 7 and 9 year old play 1v1 by themselves and dont have any problems playing it. Not a game you play 1-2 times a year. Yall have update pack? The copy you showed is 1st edition.

  4. Everdell is so easy to enter it’s baffling in comparison, just play the base game – quick and simple. Eclipse is more of a euro than 4x, you won’t play it regardless – long and soulless. West should take over the show, now – much more adequate.

  5. I think you’re wildly missing the point of backlash against ripping up Frosthaven.

Ripping a copy up while unboxing ‘just for the YouTubes’ is the height of privilege, and a dick move.

Nobody has a problem with you taking the copy to play with your kids.

  6. Eclipse looks great, but I love ti4 so if I don’t want to take away from it. It sounds easier to get to the table. So it make TI obsolete. Tough…. Cause I kinda want it… 😝

  7. The City of Kings is a great game, but its also a Hybrid of two genre's. It does have adventure game parts but also has base building parts with worker management. People that don't adventure games and wanted a pure Euro don't like it for its adventure aspect, and People that like Adventure games don't like the building and worker management of it. However if you like both, then its really a fantastic game.

  8. Rising Sun first play wasn’t so great, we got a lot of rules wrong and focused heavily on combat and monsters.
Second play was a lot better and everyone got higher scores. Focusing on clever area control and using cards/monsters carefully to gain the most points.
The only part of the game I think grinds it to a halt is the part where you buy cards. In a 5 player game it drags the whole game down and just makes it so slow

  9. Similar experience with city of kings. Bought it for the art, read a ton of reviews and resisted the mixed negative opinions. In the end the game boiled down to just a dry random unnecessarily punishing puzzle. Sold it after 6-7 plays. The only good is component quality and the art. Wait….what….Cloudspire? NO way that is an amazing game!!

  10. I have my favourite games that I play more than others, but it's a bit odd to go "I want to play this game but I have no spare tiiiime!" but also go "I'll go to a friends house for 4 days of board games and play an old game 15 times"

  11. City Of kings kind of surprised me as well with what it actually is, but to be honest even if it is mostly a puzzle almost by the numbers game, it actually delivers quite well and is quite fun, definitely not the one you return back to back again, but once in a while yes it is good

  12. If you don't like Terraforming Mars, definitely check out Ares Expedition. It's like a weird hybrid of TM and Race For The Galaxy, it's a lot faster, only has card play, and is an all in one, no expansions experience. Definitely get the collectors edition with plastic resource trays and double layer player cards.

  13. I think there should be another aspect to this list. Where Shira tries to prove you both wrong. With some rules of course if she sets up and teaches one of you one of these games you have to sit and play it.

  14. Keeping the games in shrink doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

If I'd kept my copy of Steamwatchers in shrink I wouldn't have discovered my copy was missing the morale cubes.

That was easy enough to fix, but imagine you open an out-of-print game from shrink in 5 years to find critical stuff is missing and you can no longer get said critical stuff because the publisher went bust.

    No thanks 🙂
