10 Acre Homestead with Container Home AND Geodesic Dome powered by the SUN!

Our entire 10 acre homestead including Shipping Container home AND Geodesic Dome are both completely off grid and will be powered by the SUN! We’ve built a Geodesic Dome and Shipping Container Home without power but today we take the first step to change that. Thanks to AG1 for sponsoring Click here: https://athleticgreens.com/tylerandtodd to get up to a year’s supply of immune supporting Vitamin D + 5 individual travel packs, both FREE with your first purchase!

The idea to build a shipping container home was definitely one of the wildest ones we’ve had and if you’ve been joining our weekly videos for any amount of time you know that’s saying something. It feels absolutely incredible that the container home FINALLY has a consistent and reliable source of heat…just in time for the holidays! Join us every Sunday as we continue to create off the grid homestead vlogs, sharing our adventures as we build our own alternative lifestyle of living off the land and building a home out of shipping containers

Join us on Patreon where we have over 30 never before seen episodes AND 37 recorded livestreams…hours and hours of entertainment to binge watch!

How did we get here?
After a year of full time travel living the van life, we had to adapt when the world changed. To keep busy we’ve converted our tiny house on wheels into a fully functioning off grid home that has everything we need. Realizing that none of us know how long this new normal will stick around, we made the decision that building a home here was the best decision we could make. We’ve spent the last year doing EVERYTHING involved with coordinating and planning the build ourselves as well as setting up this off grid property to be able to provide us with the the food we’ll need in the future. That led us to needing a place to live while we realized our dream of building a shipping container home. After lots of searching we finally discovered Geodesic Dome’s and it was the perfect fit for us while we took our time with the container home.

  1. It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly THREE YEARS since we made a decision that would completely alter the course of our lives. If you’ve been coming along since the beginning, you already know the sacrifices involved with this project…maybe when we finally turn the lights on and can use a hot water heater I’ll finally retire the “I feel cheap clip”🤣… LOL, just kidding that will live forever! In all seriousness, as much as I love the green aspect of generating our own carbon neutral power, the thing I am the most excited for is having a completely FREE supply of power for the rest of our lives. In today’s dollars our panels will generate roughly $325 PER MONTH of energy, I can’t tell you how excited I am to never have to fill a jerry can again! We’re going to keep pressing on with the build but as Todd said in the video…we’re going to have fun along the way. Speaking of, we’re spending the afternoon snowshoeing through the woods before the snow melts. Hope you have a wonderful week and we’ll see you next Sunday xoxo

  2. Lovely video, as always. I'm just a little concerned about two things, and I hope you don't mind me mentioning them: Maybe your UV water thing should be in it's own pump house? You don't want, as you said, for it to cause harm to the batteries. And don't batteries need to be kept cool in the summer? With a cross breeze and maybe a fan system? I dunno. Great to watch your careful work, and fun relationship.

  3. Little by little, bit by bit! Well more that a little bit of work. The powerhouse is almost done! Later, maybe, some sort of drainage can be arranged to protect the bottom of the container. It is steel so it will last but rust will get to it. Was the outside base painted when you first got it? Not a huge issue, but in a couple years maybe revisit that issue.
You guys are so nice and you work hard. Video games are good for the brain 😉. Chillin' out is a good thing! 💙💜💜💙

  4. Thank you for the upload. I always watch on Sundays but had a family health emergency. Watching your video today helped calm me down, lift me up and laugh! Thank you so much for the heated floor install! I will be doing that when I renovate my primary bathroom and your insight is super helpful. Btw, unadulting = self-care. Fantastic progress on the power building. Have a happy week!

  5. I don’t really know anything about video games but I know this show is based on one. If you have HBO Max, watch the last of us a new episode every Sunday and I’m telling you right now it is a really great. Only the premier episode in one after that so far is on.

  10. For you both it was a hard rough 2022 summer/fall, wasn’t it? I’m afraid, you’re still overwhelmed and above all tired, aren’t you?… and you’re allowed to feel like that, take your time! I’ve noticed that your fun, sharpness and energy levels are slightly lower than usual. It looks like you’ve lost your vlogger’s innocence… but you’ve a strong will and an endless joy however it’s becoming harder for you to share with us your tasks and projects probably just because you’re feeling more contained, right? 😊 You have to move on and plan a head your vlogs, just divide them into three categories – the long story (“The Land”); the ordinary or weekly tasks; and the extraordinary, fails and quirky ones – and alternate them wisely week after week… cause variety matters, keep surprising us! However keep in mind that each vlog episode have to have a story within the greater “story”. Everything you really want to share matters, no more the so called fails, secrets or any easy way out just keep it honest because you’re both creative, likable and fun! Keep growing but keep the viewer informed on what you’re doing on yours weekly “vlog endeavor: The Land”. Lead us the way, show us where you intend to go to… you can’t afford loosing one single viewer just because he’s feeling lost or frustrated. Never forget you’re a good storytellers, your ease, the teasing jokes, your creativity… and all the stories yet to be told! Start over, day one: the backstory and wrap up the “containers idea” well, kill the rumors that they’re ufos from the outer space… and just be kind to yourselves!
