I have been a junky for 25 years, I have been through withdrawals from every drug including alcohol. Tianeptine was by far the worst and scariest withdrawals I have ever had. I didn't sleep for 5 days and went into psychosis. I was in the worst withdrawals of my life and was hallucinating. I couldn't sleep or eat and eventually got to where I wasn't able to breathe properly and had to go to the hospital. I can't tell you how scary an experience this was, it was one of the top 3 scariest things that had happened to me in my life!
Pharmaceutical synthetic opioids are probably the lesser of the evils. Restrictions hurt people that genuinely need the drugs and benefit criminals who immediately step in to supply the masses. They sell more dangerous drugs some of which are made into pills that look identical to the legitimate pharmaceutical version. Instead of getting a misdirected percodan, users get something that looks legitimate but is actually fentanyl and kills them. Way to go refulators.
The CDC's initial report (remember that) hid the fact that overdoses on prescription drugs were usually by non-legitimate users, combinations of dugs or drugs used with alcohol. It was the impetus for the kneejerk legislation that followed.
To this day information is manipulated by selective data combination. There's the death by all prescription drugs that people assume are pharmaceutical opioids. There's the death by any opioid drug category, legal and illegal. There are pharmaceutical opioids alone. By mixing and matching these statistics you can make it appear that the opioid crisis is improving, devolving, in need of more government action or manipulate people to give up their right to medical privacy.
Obviously the gas station has found a loophole to make money. Shocking.
But seriously. When does the government ever improve anything?

Thank You for putting this together, BUT be careful what you condemn. Folks like you, Politicians, Police Officers, and ignorant Citizens have done a MAJOR AMOUNT of damage to law-abiding people. Claritin D used to be 9$ for a month supply, but after "Do Gooders" lobbied and got it "Controlled" raising the price to 30 plus dollars for a 10 day supply. Same for Opiods for injured people that actually need it. The prices went from 20-50$ for a months supply to near 500$ for the same!!
"Do Gooders" never think about how they hurt the honest people, and they don't care about the outcome. And has the Regulations helped the Drug War? Hell No, it has not!! But you have hurt a hell of a lot of honest people. Anyone that lobbied to get all those drugs heavily regulated, even if badly injured, should not be allowed access to them.

So many addicts in the comments. It’s a sad state how many of us are addicts of one thing or another. I’m still on suboxone after almost two decades of opiate addiction. It’s better than heroin and pills if you can handle the responsibility but it’s not perfect and if society were to ever truly fail, imagine how many addicts would be let loose to do anything to feed that need. Scary thoughts.
