Welcome to the Letterman YouTube Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show – as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate — but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era.

  1. I loved his comedy, and he had a talk show for a month, and my friends and I went to the premiere episode because we loved his comedy and Foo Fighters were the musical guest.

When Foo Fighters we’re coming on, he went up into the audience and sat next to me and we chatted briefly. He was so friendly and was genuinely excited to watch Foo Fighters do their thing.

  2. In the 1986 film The Mission staring Robert De Niro, Italian composer Ennio Morricone has a beautiful song called Gabriel's Oboe, and in this song right there in the orchestra with everyone else is a well dressed man in a tuxedo who's job it is to play the bongo. I always like to think that if I could read his mind he would be saying. "and they all laughed at me when I took bongo at Juilliard."
