  1. Huge shout out to the Professor for helping our Yu-Gi-Oh brains learn at least something about Magic the Gathering today!
I think we have no choice but to try to play Commander now… 🤔

  2. I love the dynamic of the two guys on the end being more generous to the casual/Commander cards and our middle guy being the one that is like "this card sucks in a 1v1 format!"

  3. I bought the power 9 2004 along with a play set of all dual lands, for maybe 600? I enjoy watching these videos, I haven't touch mtg since 2012. They're like the biticoin you forgot you had lol

  4. My Power Nine for Yu-Gi-Oh!:
    1. Pot Of Greed
    2. Painful Choice
    3. Graceful Charity
    4. Delinquent Duo
    5. Vanity's Emptiness
    6. The Forceful Sentry
    7. Confiscation
    8. Cold Wave
    9. Sixth Sense

These work in every deck, are almost always live, are just absolutely busted for the advantage they give, and none of these cards can ever come back to the game. Any attempt to make a similar card is going to need to have a steep cost or some kind of ridiculous activation condition. Painful Choice = quadruple Foolish Burial that replaces itself. Sixth Sense = draw 5 or 6, or mill 1-4.

  5. “It blows my mind that a card can have 3 words in the text box… unheard of in Yugioh!”
    Meanwhile Pot of Greed:
“Not only does no one know what I do, no one read my text box! 😭😭”

  6. YGO and MTG have a different economic system :
_ygo has no format. So they have to power creep as hell each set to sell it. That explains why ygo current competitiv play is so close from mtg vintage format
_mtg has formats, so the power creep can be really low. But it also requires to feed every formats, which explains why there is often useless rares/ mythics for standard in standard boosters (but really good in commander, modern or legacy)

  7. I loved this concept of a video. And the two channels the professor and aps it's perfect.

Edit. The power 9 for yugioh? I would say raigeki. I know. I would also say Solemn judgement.

  8. power 9 Yu-Gi-Oh I daresay raigeki, monster reborn, change of heart, pot of greed .. anything like that. most are banned. though I play casual Yu-Gi-Oh so I play all those cards

  9. @12:30, what the professor left out, is Prodigal Sorcerer that is format dependant. Only playing with older cards, this is close to at rate. Contemporary cards, this is clearly an expensive card which is too slow for only 1 damage. Really the card could be reprinted, only costing 2, having haste (summon sickness is ignored) and deathtouch.

  10. Sweet video guys! Its nice to see how someone new would react to cards. Like my friends and I took off 8 or so years from Magic and started playing again after the pandemic has kind of wrapped, they had some unexpected rule changes they needed to learn.

Like the history of how the Combat Phase has changed is an interesting journey over the 30 year history. My guess is that Yu-Gi-Oh has some changes but nothing drastic.

  11. I'll be honest, creating a power 9 in YuGiOh that compares to the power 9 in Magic is extremely difficult. YuGiOh has a huge power creep meta. A lot of the stuff that was good back in the day is overshadowed by newer, more broken cards. Magics power 9, is still to this day, the power 9. Undisputably. If they were legal to play they would break the game, even to this day. You're hard pressed to find many YuGiOh cards that fit that description, from the very beginning days of the game. You gotta remember Magics power 9 literally comes from the first set ever printed. Magic and YuGiOh took opposite paths. Magic started out in it's most retarded game state and became a slower and more balanced game. YuGiOh started out as a slower and more balanced game and they just kept repeatedly breaking it until the games were 2 turns max. They both became what the other started out as. And for that reason it's hard to give YuGiOh a power 9, when they all used to be vanilla wafers back in the day.

  12. A YouTuber called TCGTheory did a video speculating on Yu-Gi-Oh's equivalent of the Power 9. Pot of greed was one of them. Personally, I think a lot of the early banned spells would be contenders: like Painful Choice and Delinquent Duo

  13. Prodigal sorcerer is a crap card, in which format is a 3 mana 1/1 good? And if it would be really a treat next turn it would be removed with 1 toughness before it has any impact on the board.

I can get a full set of 4 cards for 1 cent. lol

  14. Depends on the time period, but back in the day I would say monster reborn and change of heart were game changers on the playground benches I used to duel on.

  15. I think if we just talked spells a power 9 is extremely dependent on the era of Yu-Gi-Oh
A classic era it'd be more like a power 20 [in a historic vaccum as some of the cards have been power crept]

    Raigeki
    Harpies feather duster
    Pot of greed
    Graceful charity
    Delinquent duo
    Dimension fusion
    Confiscation
    Snatch steal
    Painful choice
    The forceful century
    Mirage of nightmare
    Card of safe return
    Monster Reborn
    Premature Burial
    Last will
    Imperial order
    Return from the different dimension
Chaos emperor dragon envoy of the beginning (pre eratta)
    Magical scientist
    Cyber stein

But for a modern era list of a power 15 it would probably look like:

    Soul Charge
    That grass looks greener
    Imperial order
    Vanity's emptiness
    Firewall dragon (pre eratta)
    Rhongomyniad
    Utopic Zexal
    True king of all callamaties
    Shock master
    Gumblar
    Knightmare goblin
    Elder entity norden
    Fairy Tail Snow
    Summon sorceress
    Majispecter unicorn Kirin

But what's interesting about the modern era of cards is that a lot of cards on the ban list practically do the same thing (rongo,Zexal, vfd, shock master, azathot, protoss, etc.) Which seems to show that a lot of the problem is that Konami will just recycle old bad card design into the metagame and will either just try to stick a different summoning condition if it's a monster or add a different what seems to be "restriction" that ends up being irrelevant because we find loopholes with other cards to make the restriction not matter (needing rank up for utopic Zexal for example)

There are arguments that halq belongs on a modern power 9 list but there's an argument that every era could have a power 9 since at it's core Yugi is full of incredibly powerful cards compared to other cars games since our cards have no cost other than conditions to summon, life points, or discard.

  16. Props to these guys for acknowledging the comments in their last video doing this (I see a lot of this in these types of videos). But also props to the professor for taking the time to learn about what their knowledge base would be too, so that he could accurately walk through the cards.
