YouTube continues to tell us that we have a content gap when it comes to NVIDIA’s GT 1030, so we wanted to answer an age-old question: just how much performance do you get for a hundred dollars on a brand new card these days?

  1. Great video! Also I should mention, the rx 580 listed in the description is a 2048sp, basically delivering 570 performance while being overclocked as you mentioned in the video.

  2. It is a good addition to older systems where the on-board is not cutting it (lga 775 etc) It allows you to watch for example streaming services without stutter 😅 Never owned a 1030 but I did try to watch streaming on a 775 system without dedicated gpu. Impossible 😂

  3. So back in the day I tried to play league of legends with an i7 and on board graphics (from the i7), it was a new game to me at the time and it would crash on the tutorial.

  4. I bought one used around early 2018 for roughly 60-70 bucks with almost 2 years of warranty. That time I needed something cheap and safe. It is still working fine. Maybe not today but back then this particular one was a pretty good deal.

  5. I remenber when 1030 launch and i was crazy to buy one, is a great tool for troubleshoot since was a cheap card, i could use to test if a client GPU was bad or some weird Mobo, Drive witchcraft happened

  6. I have a GT1030 in an old AM3 system that's running an Athlon II X4 CPU, with 16GB of RAM, and a SATA SSD. It runs Windows 10 quite well, and has no issues with 4k Youtube content. It even runs older games like the original Mass Effect trilogy very well at 1080p. This is an HP with a really weak 250 watt PSU, so I had to make sure the GPU drew very little power. The CPU is also old and slow, so a more powerful GPU would make no sense.

  7. Look closer Linus. That “$80 dollar” RX580 was made by some random ass Chinese brand. Any reputable RX580 will set you back 4 times that for whatever reason. I suppose the reputable brands don’t make them anymore.

  8. I keep thinking I want to upgrade from my RTX 3060ti when I do the rest of my PC up to 13th or 14th gen intel or equivilant AMD. Then I look at how little extra bonus there is in the 4000 series, and I'm praying that the 3090 price comes down. I just want the extra GPU ram, and I'd love it if chipmakers would start making base GPUs, with their own sub-expansion slots to add more ram and aftermarket coolers.

  9. The main reason for buying this card is if you need hardware decoding of newer video codecs or if your system doesn't have an igpu like earlier ryzen chips. An RX 580 won't help you decode VP9 for instance even though it might be great bang for buck 2nd hand for gaming.

I'm going through this atm, my old R9 Nano in my htpc offloads to the cpu for hevc and vp9 so I'm probably going to get an RX 6400 to replace it. A few years back when I spec'd a ryzen 3600 for my work pc I ended up getting a GT 1030 just cause I needed the cheapest gpu I could find (probably just should have got an equivalent Intel cpu but wanted to try ryzen at the time 🙂 )

  10. I use these in Small Form factor computers at work. I believe they have 2GB of RAM. They are great budget graphics card to prolong the life of business class small form factor computers. Before the Graphics card price meltdown, I usually could find them for $90ish. When they started going up in price, i found a comparable AMD offering. Now that most Small form factor machines have passable HDMI options, I rarely have to do anything other than upgrade the system RAM.

  11. Where are comparable modern (think 30xx,40xx and team reds) half-height cards that perform well!? Shoutout to the SFF or 1-2u server builds with gaming potential!

  12. The selling point of the gt1030 was that it was the best cheap low profile card that could fit comfortably in a small form factor machine. I have yet to see a RX580 in such a form factor. Also the gt1030 could be had with passive cooling which made it wonderful for media machines.

I bought a gddr5 Gt1030 new 5 years ago for my small form factor machine for under $100. The machine is a HP/compaq elite 8300 SFF with an i7-3770 16gb ram the gt1030 2gb gddr5 with an el cheapo SSD and two spinners that I use as a secondary gaming machine and media server. I can play/raid in wow, overwatch, diablo 3, warthunder, world of warships, eve online (up to 12 clients), GTA V, Battletech, MWO, HoI IV and a whole host of steam games. Running furmark and prime95 it pulls under 110watts from the wall and has been super stable. The system is super easy to take with me when I'm going somewhere for a length of time and can handle most of the games I play.

The ddr4 version has always been junk in comparison to the gddr5 version. Today I'd rather spend $30 more and get a RX6400 for vastly better performance. Last year I assembled a system like mine but with the RX6400 and the performance difference was dramatic. That system is being used by some kids to play bendy froggy goat sim etc for under $250 total.

  13. It's not really intended to be a gaming GPU, at all. Not to mention nvidia doesn't even try to brand it as such. Hence the 'GT' rather than 'GTX' it does ok in games that aren't terribly demanding or are old though.

  14. Intel HD has slowly been improving, that they’re more usable with basic day to day stuff….. but they still need catching up.
I get that intel does this so the whole cpu package doesn’t use too much power for those low end systems…. But they could do better with adding Iris 96EU graphics to their desktop chips, rather than keeping those on their mobile stuff :/
    Like…. It’s almost better than a 1650 desktop

  15. This thing isn’t a gaming card in the least. Plus that issue of not being able to launch games due to low VRAM, will also happen for devices like the 1050ti or 1650. The 1050ti is literally double the power of a 1030, while the 1650 is 2.2 times more powerful than the 1030, but both have 4GBs of vram.
Which can run some games like cyberpunk, but others…. Not so much.
All three of those cards, are for lighter games. Stuff like older games from 2017 and back, and newer light weight games, like Slime rancher as an example.

  16. The RX580 is literally not an option for some people 💀
The 1030, 1050ti, and 1650 are for low profile, or lower power builds. Same with the new RX6400.
The RX580 takes 185 watts, which the thing is equal to the GTX1060 of the time, but more power efficient.
Like my old broken PC a with a 300 watt power supply could just about run the 1060 if I got a 2x SATA to 6 pin, and maybe kept the thing undervolted. But I can’t use the thing, cuz it’s a piece of crap with a pentium, and only two ram slots.
