Favorite song by him!
I love, love, love this version. It hits harder in the feels. Very glad you decided to react to the studio version. In the Air Tonight has to be seen in the live Paris video to really get that phenom. Against All Odds is more of an intimate song and studio is just that.
The Live version of In the Air tonight is great for the visuals but the studio version is just a very cool in your head musical feast. When it first played on the radio there was literally nothing like it, period. I was running the studio version around to all my friends at the time saying "you have to listen to this, it's mind blowing!!" Adn the rest of the album is such a treat as well. If you want your stereo to sound good this is the album to play it on. In the stereo shops it was what they would put on to demo the best speakers.
Beautiful song! Check out Eric Clapton's "Bad Love" with Phil on drums. You'll like that one. Thanks for this one.
Thanks for being so good to us & sharing your re-listen of this amazing song. No way to know when to go studio versus live without feedback from your YT family. On that note, would you please put Queen “Somebody to Love” live in Montreal on your list? It’s widely considered to be one of the best live performances of all time.
Thanks for reaching to Collin.. I will share some other rare and multi talented Singer round the world in far east… Thanks

This one particular song is so very different from live to studio. But, if you're going to listen to one it's valuable to listen to both in a case like this.
Great reaction. The live he sings Take a look at me now with a weird noooowww but the studio version is perfect. This song was from the movie by the same name with Jeff Bridges. Phil said he did not think when he wrote this song that it was anything special. Was he wrong.
While I do prefer this, the original, I have to admit Mariah Carey did a great job covering this song, worth checking out her version.
Check out Sususudio live MTV version. It won't disappoint
This is a great studio recording, but my favorite version is still the live, piano only recording from the 1985 Live Aid concert…I watched it as it happened on TV.
Here is a great song from Phil, a humorous video, and Eric Clapton on guitar, to top it off. https://youtu.be/YcY3FH208l8
❤ Oh I am so glad you decided to listen to the studio version too. It really feels much more emotional than the live version.
The general rule when reacting to a song you’ve never heard before is to always start with the studio version. You get to immerse yourself back in time when all of us used to hear these classics on the radio. After that, if you’re curious to see how it sounds in concert, do a live version reaction.
Love the passion in this song…and probably the best drum fills in a ballad ever!
Live and studio always hit differently and it can go both ways. The Studio version is presumably how the artist intended the song to sound but when it comes to the live, the atmosphere and the artists response can often switch it up to another level. It can however also brutally expose the limitations of the artist if they have any flaws in their technique or they are simply having a bad day. For me the studio version should always come first unless you get a whole load of people pushing you to the live (because they will know that the artist smashed it on that occasion).
it is never a mistake to listen to Phil Collins. 🙂 I just love the power of this song. 'Another day in paradise' is another beautiful song of his. He has so many epic songs that give you feels. Someone mentioned his version of 'You cant hurry love' below in the comments; that would be an amazing song for you to react to.
Please react to RED RIDER on their song “Lunatic Fringe”. Tom Cochrane is the lead singer. Love this band.
I've always maintained that anyone listening to a song for the first time should, generally speaking, (because there's always exceptions to the rule), listen to the studio version first, as it gives a basis on how the song was intended to be the origin version that was meant to be heard on the radio or TV, back in the day. Live recorded versions tended to come later and often do elaborate somewhat on the songs structure and length. Which is pretty much how live performances of songs should be. Listening to an almost verbatim copy of what you can hear at home kind of defeats the point of seeing the artist live, after all! But, for a first listen, I still maintain the studio version of most songs, then you can listen to the live versions, once you've got the nuance of what the song's all about.
As for this song; it's one of a few that propelled Phil Collins as a solo artist into the top tier. A position he held for most of the 80's. Peaking around '85 and levelling off during the latter part of the decade.
After his '85 tour he took it down a key or so to hit the notes, and in doing so, I think it removed some of the intensity of his voice. I think the live version on the '85 tour is nearly as good as this, but after that tour, the versions are great but not as great as this.
Love Phil Collins. Great voice. Would love to see your react to URGENT by Foreigner live with the Twenty first century orchestra and choir. Great song with a great sax solo. It'll blow you away.
One of my favorite songs, period!
Another great reaction of yours! I'd love to see you cover the video from the same Paris concert that his In The Air Tonight video was from. It's called Phil Collins – Drums, Drums & More Drums (Live). It's such a great showcase of his drumming skills, alongside two other amazing drummers. The energy they give off is contagious, it's so fun. Thanks again!
❤❤❤
Such a haunting sound. Just the right emotions in his voice. Ahhh Phil Collins. What a phenomenal singer.
Released in 1984, the year a girlfriend left me. Must have played this song a gazillion times.
Better than I remembered.
Next? "Missed Again", Live in Paris ,2004 :

Another great artist is Elton John; LEVON, TINY DANCER, AND ROCKET MAN, (studio versions) are all truly great classic rock tunes. There's really no way to express the impact Elton John had on rock music.
Phil Collins is great in the band Genesis too. Try "That's All", "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight," and "Turn It On Again". All studio versions.
Yeah I agree. Listen to the people!! But ck out Peter Gabriel secret live world tour… please and thank you 😘💗💗💗💗
Always listen to the studio version first, then the live.
