  1. 1:43 This amuses me greatly.
1:51 Oh, I get it now. Still funny.
2:34 Comments were taken personally, it seems.
3:12 One day, I hope to find a good autoscrolling level. I have not, as of yet.
7:01 Reminder that Kamek and Bowser still work together, at least as of Thousand Year Door.
8:37 Such a good jingle. Jingle-thing. Chord? Bar? (I don't know, and if I'm corrected I will forget before it's relevant again.)
13:53 Yea, it's not this fight's strong suit, you just kinda have to guess. Not great for your only attack.
16:07 You kidnap infants, repeatedly try and prevent Yoshi from delivering Mario to his rightful destination… and because we resist, we're the "meanies"? I hate people like you.
16:25 Kamek even kidnapped the stork!
18:14 It's been good. Though I will admit, I still don't know what makes a "good Mario game".
    20:07 Thank you for playing!
20:13 There's still a few days of Christmas left!
    20:17 I hope 2025 improves… it's already been quite nasty to a lot of people… and it's only Day 2.
    23:36 Wow, that's mean.
26:15 I'm used to watching Dan Jones learn tricks, this is nothing. I also think Ame used rewind a lot, but I don't remember.
26:56 I've never really gotten hyped for hard mode levels. I love the completion aspect. 007 difficulty for GoldenEye64 and Elite mode on StarFox64 have been points of pride for me in the past. Also, 007 difficulty and Elite mode are just fun variations.
28:17 tbh, I'd rather fight Kamek. He's been the thorn in your side the entire time and makes sense. Baby Boswer feels very "contractually obligated final boss for a Mario game".
    29:28 Same!
31:45 Universe did even let him finish setting himself up.
31:58 "Us"? There's no "us" here, just you, I'm afraid.

  2. I know I beat every level as a kid, but I definitely didn't 100% the bonus levels. I remember a red coin in a monkey level that I just flat out gave up on. Those bonus levels are no joke.

[edit]: Oh, there it is. Bonus 3.

  3. I'm definitely biased, since I've been replaying Super Mario World for decades at this point and I've only played Yoshi's Island once (although that, itself, indicates what kind of impression each game made on me), but I think the Secret Exit mechanic alone in SMW makes it my favorite of the two games: the way the different worlds are interconnected and you can unlock alternate paths by clearing levels in different ways is so cool. But watching this playthrough has definitely made me appreciate this game in a way I never did during my first experience, and it's very clear to me now why game developers of all types (especially artists and animators) love it as much as they do. Thanks for another great Marioliday season, Dan!

  4. for me is easy to think of Bowser as a dragon, a creature who likes to hoard wealth, power, princesses and lava, who has been terrorizing the mushroom kingdom for ages… but then I got reminded of this game, where he is probably a year older than Mario, never growing out of that spoiled toddler mindset.

  5. Great to see credits on this game since I never finished it back in the day. It got a bit too difficult for me late game but the art, music, enemy designs really are top notch.

  6. I vaguely remember, in the final fight, there's buckets JUST offscreen somewhere, with a refill of stars. Since the phase 1 always causes you to lose some, they hide replacements.

  7. Is this why Mario is slightly more formidable than Loogi? Because Mario got way more exp being drug across Yoshi's Island through oceans, blizzards, and volcanoes in nothing but his diaper and cap vs Loogi just hanging out waiting for rescue XD This game is an absolute JOY.

  8. I have a headcanon that the Koopa Kids are Bowser's actual children, but with some of Kamek's timeline fu…dgery, baby Bowser got stuck in the future, and was adopted by his older self, to become Bowser Jr.
