XCOM 2 continues, as we find ourselves trapped in a zombie-infested city, and hunted by an invisible super-assassin, which means I need to get to grips with Reapers & Skirmishers really rather urgently…

Specialist is the 1 class I take 2 of on most missions. 1 healer and 1 anti-robot
John get a gunslinger they're broken especially when you get the shadow strike or higher powered pistols
Not sure if you're looking to go in blind without tips, so I'm gonna try and make this only in read more, but there is a great strategy for dealing with the Lost…

Reloading takes the action of the soldier, meaning they can only kill so many lost per turn, BUT the sniper unit has a pistol that never needs to reload, which means with a good enough pistol you can kill a whole horde with one unit, in one turn.
Yea snipers arent super good in retaliation missons, mobility is king
To mutch easier avoid any accidents revealing your squad or not get a flanking shoot when it looks like 1 i highely recommend the mod called [WotC] Gotcha Again. It dosent effect any enemys and are purely an improved visual aid when moving your squad around and makes it very clear if your move is gonna break concelment by braking a window or run through an enemys detection area. Assuming u already have visual contact with the enemy pod ofc. It wont give u any visual warnings if the detecting enemy is outside of your squads visual range. It also very mutch helps with the target preview showing u an enemy marked as yellow if that spot will be a flanking shoot before u move your soldier there. The basegame will show all enemys as red in preview before moving even if that spot is gonna be a flanking shoot.
When it comes to the research breakthroughs make sure u really pay attention on what exactly it says and ask yourself if u even need it and if u do, are u planning on building it anytime soon. Most breakthroughs can be abit deciving if u dont properly read what it says and just as an example lets take that Power Relay Construction breakthrough u got earlier. Just becouse it has the word construction dosent mean u build it when in fact all that research did was lowering the construction price of the Power Relay building by 50% when u eventually build it. The Power Relay is 1 of the cheaper buildings in the game so do u really need to lower its price? Or could those days it took for that research be better spend on another research instead. Your not gonna ruin the campaign by doing all breakthroughs that comes up but its a good ide to ask yourself, Do i really need this or should i skip this for something more important.
Also becouse some of the ability text can be abit cryptic when deciding what to pick after a promotion u can click on the (?) on the ability icon to get additional info such as if the ability is a 1 time use/mission or how long the CD is on the ability for example. The basic text on some abilitys are very bad and after reading the extra text u realise some abilitys are alot better then at first sight.
Mr Eggbox took extra points into luck apparently
the specialists can use those healing kits remotely – di it!
I am absolutely loving this series – thank you!
Jon: Kills Kelly
Also Jon: Breezes through the first assassin mission
Me: 🤯
Soooo do well you get a Jon makeover…
Watching this as someone who has played several hundred hours of this game, it’s been really fun to sort of relive the trial and error nature of a first playthrough. It’s easy for those of us who have experienced this game over a dozen playthroughs to poke holes in whatever Jon is doing, but going in fresh, there’s just naturally going to be sacrificial lambs like Jane Kelly who teach a lesson about how the game’s various systems work. Hope we all manage to let Jon experience this game in that manner, because I remember we all sort of prevented him from getting that blind experience with our “helpful” comments in Enemy Unknown.
Snipers (and Reapers) are very "meh" during their early levels but become glorious lords of death at their later levels.
Im totally green to Xcom but after a recap video of the first game, I’m really liking this series so far!
Your Reaper rolled genius level combat intelligence. That means she earns more points to learn multiple abilities in the skill tree. She's going to be an amazing unit… If she stays alive.
I'm annoyed by the resistance raid scene, where Denmother can very clearly hear your guy say "Hey, you have incoming!" while also hearing the Advent news guy saying "We're gonna go murder resistance folks!", and yet acts like she has no idea what's going on because there's the barest hint of static. This kind of thing shows up in media all the time, and it makes the people suffering from the lost signal sound like buffoons.
EDIT: Oh good, Jon was just as bothered by that as I was.
Combat protocol is guaranteed damage and does great damage against mechs. One of your specialist should absolutely go the combat route.
Nice work with the Chosen! I'll admit, I was pretty worried about that cliffhanger, especially with Mox as low as he was, but you managed to expose the Assassin, flank her, and wipe her out before she even got off a move! Very impressive. I actually don't have much to criticize about your tactical decisions this episode. If there's one thing, it's that you didn't use Outrider's new Remote Start ability to detonate the explosive next to the Faceless, instead wasting Tabby's shot on it, but that's really just a nitpick.
Regarding Classes; The thing about Sharpshooters is that both branches of the promotion tree are absolutely excellent. On the one hand, Snipers can get to the point where you're sending one or two massively powerful shots halfway across the map to strike enemies like lightning bolts, but Gunslingers, while they have to get up to mid-range, can eventually pump out a frankly absurd number of lower-damage shots in a single turn, and can spread it out as needed across multiple targets. They both definitely have their uses. I'd also recommend not sleeping on the Combat Hacker side of the Specialist tree, though Medical over Combat Protocol was probably the right call early-game.
By the way, I like what you're doing with the experienced soldiers, not completely overwriting them and renaming them to someone else, but still giving them a nice bit of personalization so they're more easily identifiable.
"if im using a sniper correctly they will be at the back",acctually you dont really use the sniper as a sniper they are more like a wild west gunslinger with a sniper rifle for a seconmdary weapon, get them all the pistol perks, shove them out front and watch them rake in the kills its honestly broken how many shots you can get out if a pistol what with overwatch, return fire, attack the same target 3 times ability or target every enemy in range once, you should be getting4-5 attacks per turn per "sniper"and it never has to reload!!!!,now imagine if you have2,3 or even 4 of these on a team… perfectly balanced says xcom 2.
Should have had MacDonald in tartan, honestly.
Which, if I remember correctly, is an actual camo pattern. So…
Why does Cameron get a Scottish flag but Tabby and Jon get the 'Union Jack' and not the St George's Cross?
Wish he could replace the word bastards for cunts. Rolls off the tongue much better.
Question for other XCOM 2 vets. I'm doing WOTC for the first time and the points at which my Reaper's XCOM skills unlock is different from Jon's. Is that normal? Randomized?
Oof, that's a nasty draw on the Assassin's abilities. Kinetic Plating and Shadowstep are rough. I can't think of many worse combinations. Regen + Summons, maybe? You got really damn lucky to get out of that one.
It can be a bit hard to hear at first, but the Advent Spokesman is voiced by the same guy who voiced Garrus Vakarian.
28:10 🤣
I appreciate this series for reminding me that Jon should never be in charge of defending anyone against aliens
Jon:
“I don’t need the close range weapons upgrade for my snipers, ‘cause I will have them at the back if used correctly!”
Also Jon (in the very next mission):
“I shouldn’t have placed my sniper there (/upfront). Now they’re caught out of position.”
Well, Jon, first up, I called it and I knew you wouldn’t let me down. +12 points from me to you for this great comedy sequence.
Secondly, are you really, really, really sure you don’t need that close range weapons upgrade for your snipers?
Lucky. Very very lucky.
Jon, your sniper can pistol shot the 2 HP Lost all day. Unlimited ammo.
Btw, you don't need cover agenst Lost. They don't shoot back :p
ive apparently missed a lot not having these dlcs
Damn, he should've made John an afressive support. He already made Claire a medic and robots and shields will soon start to be a big issue.
I bought XCOM collection does anyone have this on PS4 to help me get the play a multiplayer match trophy?
28:51 – Thank me later
Misconception. Reapers are not snipers. If you’re lucky they CAN get sniper perks, but generally speaking they’re not. Imagine their rifle less like a sniper and more like a hunting rifle in fallout. It has good range, but is at its most effective in fights that are much closer than sniper rifles.
They are mid range scout units that should be in the front lines really. Their ability to scout and spot are unparalleled which can provide very valuable information to the rest of your team. In addition their stealth is crazy, allowing you to be very aggressive with their scouting. Enemies straight up can’t see them unless they’re right on top of the reaper. Long story short. They stealth good, and scout even better.
(Even if Jon doesn’t read this, it’s good clarification for people in the future who just don’t know).
Oh Jon, combat medic is highly situational, but combat protocol is always useful, especially later on, when the mechs show up it does double damage aginst them. Basically, if you're using combat medic, it's because you're making a lot of mistakes, like leaving your people standing around in the open at the end of a turn. lol
I think Jon single handedly made this game go up in price. He was having so much fun that I thought I’d give it a shot, and was surprised to see the game still costs $60 7 years after its release!
Day #6 of asking Jon to play Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
Loving this series so far.
I love how War of the Chosen gave us some of the TNG cast
I can’t wait till he comes across a chosen fortress haha those are fun
Ah Jon…. Overwatch is a trap. I swear it is. Never base your plans around it. The Aim penalty you take to Overwatch fire is too hefty and most of the times the targets still benefit from cover when they're caught on the move. Just like anything else would be a better use of the action including further movement instead.
Particularly with as many timed missions as XCOM2 gives you.
