X4 Foundations is like Eve Online, but singleplayer and MUCH easier to get into. It’s empire building like in Mount & Blade Bannerlord. It’s automation, supply chains and logistics like in Factorio, minus the conveyor belts. It’s your way to helpless addiction like in Stellaris or Civilization.
But X4: Foundations is so much more. It is a one-of-a-kind game with basically no competition. It’s incredibly unique. Join me in this X4: Foundations Review and I’ll do my best to highlight why X4: Foundations is the BEST space sim that you’ve probably never heard of.

X4 can look terrifyingly complex to new players. But don't worry, I've got you covered! Join my community discord and I'll answer any questions you might have and help you find your way into the game!

Loud & clear review, I bought this game in 2018 for full price and have all DLC's, but now I know for sure it is boring for me to start … Economy in games is not for me, I find it a waste of tmy time.
Anyhow, thanks for the perfect walk through! 👍
This game had everything I wanted in a space game. Though it could be more polished in many aspects (UI, AI, Diplomacy, etc), the excitement of owning and customizing a spaceship, and being able to trade and build stations in the universe is just awesome.
It isn't that complex, though. The UI makes it looks way more inaccessible than it really is.
jajaja, puta basura de juego
Imo it doesn’t get traction because it isn’t targeted to one thing and it’s vast. I know the current player base likes it that way… but I think Everspace would be a good example of how narrowing the scope a bit can make something which is a bit more easier to grasp and still gives you all the space vibes you want. Don’t get me wrong, I do play X and this year travelled back and bought the older titles on GOG.
1155 hours of X4 and I still enjoy it very much. Also looking forward to the new DLC "Timelines" so I can replay important events and battles from previous X games in X4's engine.
This game is so underated. It's sad how it's not selling as much. Even elite dangerous sold well and that game turned into garbage.
the best x4 review I have seen so far
I was playing since x2 and for some reason always though this is a well known AAA game series and egosoft being a big studio. Now that I see that's not the case, I'm even more impressed with the game
Schönes Video<3
X:Rebirth VR was one of the best vr space experiences i've ever had and if X4 got VR Support it'd be a dream.
Is this troll post or what? X series is not Indie and Egosoft is on the market for long time, X series has a long history, so just because you've never heard of it, doesn't mean everyone else did.
My personal 2 only "negatives" with this game are no VR support in X4 and suboptimal hotas support. I can not use my hotas propperly, because the game temporariely sets any input from the throttle to zero/off if i use my rudder at all…
I do love this game.
I find, I get lost in it for months at a time. Once I reach whatever I set a as a goal, I'll float over to another game or two. And then when I'm bored of those, I inevitably float back into X4.
It's the only game that fit's it's niche in the way X4 is able to deliver. Hence I have nearly 3000 hours in X4.
Great and accurate review. This really is the closest thing to a singleplayer EVE online for me. The pacing, the wide variety of activities, modding. The game even being fully playable offline and being able to save anywhere at any time is just so nice as well.
The only thing that really bothers me is the AI when attacking stations late game. Maybe ill have to use Asgards instead of Destroyers. The AI just derps around way to often and it's frustrating that they aren't able to fix it.
But the game is so nice to just fiddle around with. Do some expansion, fly a bit yourself, check out some ongoing battles etc. Theres always something to do for every mood
Good stuff ^^
If only X4 had the bugest for triple A company it could be so much better then any other Space game in market
I’ve had every X game in launch month going back to the 90’s with X then Xbtf.
What I can say is, they all launch in a pretty terrible state.
X2 launched in the early 2000’s and even had some fake big magazine reviews with the one in PC Gamer UK claiming the reviewer had done things that were physically impossible to do in the game until months of time and several large fix patches later.
X3 needed a NASA level computer at launch. Then they did Rebirth… that lost most of the established player base by being so different.
X4 has been out for years at this point. And was also pretty rough for the first six months. Unplayable bad for many.
But every time Egosoft put years of work in and fix each game.
They’ve been doing this since before No Mans Sky got famous for it.
But the dented overall review score – a legacy of the game at launch – stays with it forever.
And deservedly so.
All developers and publishers need to launch better products.
As the late great Total Biscuit said “Buying a game at launch you get the worst possible product at the highest possible price”
And that should not be the way it works.
Great review, thank you🤠 I just can't stop playing this game anymore 🖖
RE FPS Criticism. 100% disagree. This is a an empire building space sim, first and foremost. For those wanting FPS, there are a dime a dozen other options. I'd much rather the devs focused on the core gameplay. Otherwise just see what happened to Elite Dangerous Odyssey! A total waste of time, development, and now required support. Despite all of that, in this game you can EVA into space to investigate derelicts, solve puzzles, and sabotage ships and stations from the inside and outside by hacking or placing EMPs and Explosives via your suit in EVA. No other game has done that. I commend Egosoft for sticking to their strengths and intended gameplay rather than pandering to intermittent, volatile whims of the short attention spanned – for which I doubt a game like this will sell well either way.
The Star Wars mod makes this legendary.
In what universe is X4 an Indie game?
Is it even indie if it has like more then one game?
Amazing video mate! The quality you put into this video is amazing and I know your channel will see huge growth. Looking forward to the next video, big love from Finland
0:13 Id like to say that there’s a game that could blow X4 out of the water if and when they get to polishing it. Its Spacebourne 2
I am giving X4 a break, built up an Empire waited to assault the Xenon. I’ve got 8 Destroyers, 2 Carriers and support ships etc… went on the offensive and no matter what I do my capital ships will not attack the Xenon stations… 🤦🏻
