Before WW1 ever began several lines of forts had been constructed around the city of Verdun beginning already in the late the 1800. And as military developments happen during war these forts were inspired on lessons from the Franco Prussian war in 1870/1. And for that reason the forts here are extremely interesting, and you will see details and a construction you will not see just a few years alter. And many of these forts were heavily damaged during the war, or stripped during WW2. However a few especially smaller forts can still be found if you know where to look.
Historian Roger Cook and myself are taking you on a journey of a few of these special places, one small stop fort almost in the shape as it was in 1918. But just to point out that WW1 was not just a trench war we are going to the forts to take a look at the details and share the stories.

Now to Thursday ok no worries, I be there with a smile
As always looking forward to more amazing content from Tino.
Thank you TINO for a great show also braving the very rainy cold non californian weather to make this program
Another excellent program Tino. It amazes me how so many people think that history is not important they tell that its just about a bunch of old dates and dead people. I totally agree with you that we must learn and persevere it for the future generations. Keep up the great job. I would like to see you do a series or at least a couple of programs on the concentration camps sometime.
A passing thought. You mention that the public perception of fighting of WW1 western front doesn't usually think in terms of forts but trench warfare. Could it be that in english speaking films etc they cover places where the english (and american?) fought and those areas didn't have forts.
Man, that was a riveting video! Well done, Tino.
And for those people who stole these bayonets…well…
You and Roger make an amazing Duo to document what is left and what story is to tell about what was going on back in the day.
Awesome video
Thanks TIno for another great history lesson.
Thank you Tino and Roger. The two of you really bring history to life.
EXCELLENT job. The dialog between Mr. Roger Cook and you is great, both field historians talking about the different issues around the Verdun fortifications, showing knowledge about the subject. And also it is important to mention that Mr. Cook was the one who spoke most of the time, this is a sign of how smart you are.
The fortification you were is in great shape.
Thanks Tino.
BRAVO Tino/Roger! Another very interesting presentation. a lousy 'thumbs up' isn't enough to show how I enjoy your work.

I'm wondering when Tino's work ends up being standard learning in school.
Great history Tino and from Roger Cook. However, he said both the British and the French invented the Tank at the same time, my understanding is was the British?
How did a Welshman end up working as a guide at Verdun?
Love history about wwl
For someone giving tours to students, he doesn't know a lot about the daily lives of the soldiers which in my eyes is the real history. He isn't very observant, Tino is by far the more knowledgeable of the two.
…much much appreciated…thank you kindly…mesmerising 😐
Another hour plus well spent
Have you been to the forts of the Austro-Hungarians? Those defending the Tyrol border to Italy (and vice versa) are quite interessant.
Well done again love your videos most descriptive and detailed, keep on keeping on from John in Dublin Ireland.
❤
Tchuss.pierro.
Un puits de science,ce monsieur.respect!!
