World War Weird is a show that delves into some of the most unusual and enigmatic events of both World Wars. Amid the chaos and confusion of battle, soldiers and officers claimed to witness some of history’s most bizarre sightings. Meanwhile, leaders came up with military plans that seemed utterly ludicrous. Despite years of research by experts, many of these stories remain shrouded in mystery.
One such story involves German U-boats and their encounters with unexplained sea monsters during World War I. The officers of the Kriegsmarine recorded strange sightings that suggested creatures unknown to modern science might be lurking in the ocean depths.
Another strange tale centers around the Japanese development of a bizarre weapon during World War II. In response to the Doolittle raids on Tokyo, they created a plan to use the jet stream to float incendiary bombs all the way to America’s West coast. The question remains whether this weapon would have delivered the panic and chaos the Japanese hoped for.
Perhaps the most perplexing story is that of Hitler’s halt order during the Dunkirk evacuation. With British forces trapped and seemingly at his mercy, Hitler inexplicably ordered his troops to halt. The reason for this order remains a mystery to this day, with historians debating whether it was due to occult beliefs, drug use, or other factors such as his close links to the British aristocracy.
Using de-classified documents and insights from military historians, World War Weird seeks to shed light on these and other mysterious events from some of humanity’s darkest periods.
