  1. Unless the US government does something about foreign countries catching our salmon and steelhead in the ocean, we might as well burn our money planned for anadromous fish enhancements. The more fish we create the more fish our neighbors catch. Clyde from Sandy Oregon

  2. Wolves being reintroduced into their natural habitat is always a good thing. If you're a hunter and you've ever made the argument that hunting is good for conservation to win an argument with an anti-hunter, you would be a massive hypocrite if you're against wolves being reintroduced. How often do you hear "well, the deer/elk/moose/etc don't have any natural predators anymore, so we HAVE to hunt them to control their population"? That's an often cited reason for ethical hunting, and it's a good one, and now that we're bringing those natural predators back these same "conservationist" hunters suddenly don't want it? That shows they don't give a crap about "conservation," they just want to hunt the animals themselves and will make up any excuse necessary to justify it.

Anyone against wolves being reintroduced is anti-conservation, and they selfishly care more about tag allotments maybe going down than they do about protecting wildlife, or they somehow think that even though wolves, deer, elk, moose, etc have existed in balance for hundreds of thousands of years before we were hunting them but suddenly will all eat each other into extinction in a few years (even though hunters kill thousands of deer and elk a year… Do you actually care about the elk or do you just feel sad you personally won't get to shoot one?).

Or they're a "rancher" using public land to sustain their herd, and their opinion shouldn't matter because they're already getting to use public land for their own private business and giving nothing back to anyone else. That doesn't make any sense and shouldn't be a thing at all.

  3. NE Oregon resident who supports wolf population…..BUT….here is the problem with what happened to our reintroduction(via odfw and via across snake riv/idaho) in the last 10+ yrs. The majority have stayed in the NE corner and IMO have reached over saturation. That is bad news for the wolves as livestock encounters only lead to dead wolves. Search odfw wolf maps 2012 and then 2022 and you will have the visual you need. I wish I could add them to my comment cause it is easy to see it is not a reasonable area for that many packs. In supporting the reintroduction here I also support a limited hunting opportunity to create the balance needed. The other option is to wait til they hit max population and level out but that would seem bad for lots of reasons.

  4. I live in Grand, I'll say none of us are happy, A big fire and two bad winters, has already made for a hard hunting season this year. This in my opinion is horrible timing, 5 more supposedly released today, so 10 now. Also nothing was said about the wolves that already existed they didn't want to talk about. Could have this info that was hidden before the vote would have swayed it to below 51% ?

  5. So good to see you doing a debriefing at the end of the season. Both wins and loses can both be learning experiences but we sometimes forget to take the time to debrief and learn.
    As always, thanks for sharing.

  6. I like having wolfs around, however I do have an absolute issue with people in cities voting to put apex predators in other peoples back yards. I also have a big issue with those city folk telling us we can’t hunt them or control the numbers in any way in order to find a balance that we can all live with. I live in MN, hopefully CO can find a better balance.

  7. Happy Christmas to everyone that makes the Fresh Tracks series possible! Your hard work is really appreciated.
Congratulations getting to 30, Michael. The best years are ahead of you.
Wolves: there is a debate in the UK about releasing wolves into the Highlands of Scotland. Scotland is about 12% the size of Texas. Of that area only 30% is suitable for wolves and yet the eco-zealots want to release wolves on to the hill. Apparently, in the world of eco-warriors, wolves will only eat wild deer and control their population (they always cite Yellowstone for deer control, ignoring the tags issued to take the females and young out of the Park) and will absolutely not eat live stock. No way! Good luck in Colorado, a state vastly bigger than Scotland with so much more suitable land. It will be interesting to see how this goes.

  8. Didn’t Colorado lose a shit load of elk and deer in last years winter? Or was that somewhere else? If it was Colorado, they should have let the population get bigger before releasing the wolves. This is such a bad idea 🤦🏻‍♂️
