Playing in a band over the weekend is different from secretly working for rivals, Wipro boss Rishad Premji underlined this week as the soap-to-tech business group said it has fired 300 employees for “moonlighting”. Some other tech majors – such as IBM, which has a huge presence in India, and the homegrown Infosys – have joined the chorus to call moonlighting “an unethical practice”. “Cheating, plain and simple” is how Mr Premji described it. He said he is not deterred by hate mail he’s been getting over his tweet, The Times of India reported. And his company remained stern, too, in its latest statement: “Certain employees found to be operating in circumstances that are in direct conflict with Wipro’s interests have been terminated.”

This is nothing but an excuse to downsize. Money saved will be added to his own pocket
Its very shame, actually many freshers would not get jobs because of these moonlighters
Have to blacklist these moonlighters
Earning money in dollars giving salaries in rupees…pay in dollar equivalent of rupees…then tell about moonlighting
The host seemed least interested in the response!
This is just a formula to come in headlines and stop WFH after saying people will do moonlight
they can cheat to employees by underpayments, but the employees can't, strange world's we are living in
Happens when you casually take the CODE OF ETHICS AND COMPLIANCE quarterly exam
Increase the salary of employees and no one will practice moonlighting
moonlighters ka hi jamana hai ab -dekho kahaan kahaan miltey hain , deemak
these companies want you to work for 12 to 18 hours each day for 8 hours pay.
After 8 hours, who I work for is none of your business.
Shame on you wipro. If you need transparency, tell us how of your employees work over 8 hours each day and to how many of them so you pay over time.
if you cant reveal this then STFU
I stand by Wipro here. I have seen moonlighting employees report, in the afternoon, to work because they worked late last night for their other business. Consequently, the team had no one to consult in the morning when this specific employee's code had a bug. This slowed the pace of development. This is just one of the many instances. With companies which offer unlimited paid time off, such employees will take their personal business to the next level.
If people don't like their pay, then quit. But don't cheat on your employer. Work ethics in India has always been a grey area. Both from the employer and the employee.
He is damn right!
They've slowed down their hiring and have one the lowest opening salaries, he should be surprised more people aren't moonlighting with that terribly low pay.
Well that's bad
How did they found they are working for competitors ?? Interesting to know
After doing graduation, earning only 15k as fresher , just feel the pain
If moonlighting is cheating and fraud..building offices on rajakaluve (water canals for those who don't know Kannada) in Bangalore and causing floods and destruction is a bigger fraud!
He is just trying to justify his actions by mentioning the word "Competitors". The competitors of Wipro are giant IT companies and none of them will hire a part time employee. He himself is the director of 7 companies. By the way, Wipro has been accused of illegal encroachment by BBMP. That speaks a lot about their "Ethics". Since he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he never had to struggle a day in his life. Therefore, he has no idea of the vicissitudes of life which ordinary people face.
Bhai pay kro na
Wipro is a worst company for IT employees. This gray hair CEO's brain must be updated 🙏
Do you pay us for what we do after office hrs. Pathetic, you don't own us, what we do in our personal life is none of company's concern
Firing employees from his company is not acceptable.
90% employee of wipro working on third-party pay role …. That why. ???
Sucmbag
How is it possible for one person to work for Wipro and its competitors at the same time ? All of the companies require releasing letters from previous companies. Rajeev Chandrasekhar is right in this regard. As long as the contractual obligations are met, it's none of your business to look into what employees are doing in their spare time.
I feel every individual should have full rights of any extra efforts that he wants to put in from his free time. Some spend by watching tv whereas some decide to do extra work/job to earn more for him and his family.
I feel government should step in with better rights for labors.
Money does not buy Integrity….I stand by Premji's decision….Serve ur master with all integrity!!!
