Christopher is hugging them like there stuffed animals even though tigger kanga and roo are not there.
Technically, it wasn't all Christopher's fault they were adolescents when they met them, so they somehow were able to find food before meeting him. Technically, the crossbreed should've hated Pooh cause he was the one to come up with the idea of committing cannibalism so they practically should've blamed Eeyore's death on Pooh instead not Christopher. (Plus, they could've gone to a nearby farm if it was in the movie and got food).
This prologue is basically an example of the term, “Just because you can make something like this, doesn’t really mean you should.”
After part 2 now we know why they are who they are and most likely Tigger was with the group when Christopher found them & they went savage

Poor Eeyore! He Got Consumed By Owl, Rabbit, Piglet, And Winnie The Pooh Due To Their Cannibalism And Starvation In The Winter.
