Will the UK be 'dragged into' Iran's conflict with Israel?' | LBC analysis

Matthew Wright speaks to Former Foreign Office Minister, Alistair Burt and Jewish News Foreign Editor, Jotam Confino, to discuss if the UK are being ‘dragged into Iran’s conflict with Israel.

UK forces are currently helping to defend Israel from Iranian drones and missiles after 300 drones and missiles were fired.

The attack is a retaliation for a strike that killed an Iranian military commander in Damascus – something Iran believes Israel carried out.

A statement from the UK’s Ministry of Defence reads: “In response to increased Iranian threats and the growing risk of escalation in the Middle East, the UK Government has been working with partners across the region to encourage de-escalation and prevent further attacks.

“We have moved several additional Royal Air Force jets and air refuelling tankers to the region. These will bolster Operation Shader, which is the UK’s existing counter-Daesh operation in Iraq and Syria. In addition, these UK jets will intercept any airborne attacks within range of our existing missions, as required.

“We will continue to cooperate closely with our regional partners in the interest of de-escalation.”

  1. Israel picks a fight with Iran. In an effort to goad Iran into war, Israel attacks Iran's consulate in Syria, murdering members of Iran's security forces and 7 Syrian civilians. Then the UK rushes to defend Israel against Iran. WHY ?????????????? I thought the UK claimed to be against terrorism.

  2. isræI has gotten so used to the idea of bullying & crossing lines with full impunity of the hypocritical west. It’s about time they learn their actions have consequences & that they couldn’t have even thwarted this attack from Iran without relying on its allies (which isræI would immediately throw under the bus the minute they criticize it)

Let it be known that the only reason Iran had to attack because the hypocritical west didn’t even confirm the isræIi attack on Iran’s consulate

  3. Did that foreign editor seriously say that Hezbollah killing civilians is more serious than Israel attacking an embassy….?

That spin is insane, its a freaking embassy and Israel kills innocent civilians daily.

  4. "You could say that Israel started this by attacking the consulate, but that isn't strictly true"
Change this around a bit… hang on…. right, now read… " You could say that Hamas started this by attacking Israeli citizens, but that isn't strictly true"

    See what I did there!

  5. Strait back to victimhood, and actually trying to become the victims that have been bombed daily for 6 months. When it’s them that has been the aggressive party and them that have bombed. Truly unbelievable how they believe they can shape the narrative.

  7. Iran gave 72 hours notice and hourly updates, used low tech weapons which could be easily intercepted by Israel and UK and US given the advanced notice…
And STILL managed to hit the base where the Damascus consulate strike was launched from.

    FLAWLESS VICTORY

  8. Lets have a REFERENDUM on whether the UK should be an ally of Israel.

Should the UK put its own reputation an safety on the line in defence of a genocidal regime in the middle east?

  9. Iran’s actions have consequences? What about Israel’s? Most if not all countries would find the deliberate targeting & bombing of their consulate as a very hostile act. Does anyone even remotely think that if Iran had bombed an Israeli consulate stating that it wasn’t really a consulate because it had military personnel that the ‘international community’ would have been silent? Western politicians must be exhausted trying to hide their hypocrisy.
