Can God can strike you down for lying? While God can do whatever He wants, I think that it’s unlikely He would do so for a lie. However, we should still have a healthy fear and reverence for God, recognizing His power and authority over all things.

My understanding is that God can do anything, but that he doesn't ever do anything outside of what He has set up in His Word. Some say He cannot do anything outside of His Word.
And yes, you may not get struck down, but sin always has consequences. But he does not punish us. Jesus took our punishment for us.
Pet peeve: it was Peter that struck them down. His choice, his power as granted by Jesus ("what you bind…"). A better, more faithful, and more exciting reading than the typical "God does everything and we stand by and watch" takes.
