Will Former Tucson Officer Ryan Remington Be Convicted

The former Tucson police officer, Ryan Remington was fired after shooting a suspect on a mobility scooter nine times last year.
Pima County Attorney Laura Conover hosted a news conference to make the announcement. Conover said Remington was served.

“There is no joy in this announcement today. No joy,” Conover said. “I cannot turn back the hands of time. Not for Mr. Richards and not for Mr. Remington and his colleagues. But we have an absolute obligation to seek justice for the citizens of Pima County. Rest assured that when challenging events occur that require our consideration, we will go quietly and steadily about our work, and we will do what we believe is right.”

Remington, a four-year veteran of the TPD, was off-duty working as a security guard at the Walmart near Midvale Park and West Valencia Road on Nov. 29, 2021.

A Walmart employee told Remington that 61-year-old Richard Lee Richards stole a toolbox from the store.

The employee and Remington followed Richards as he left and asked for a receipt. Richards responded, “Here’s your receipt,” pulled out a knife and kept moving.

The employee said Richards then said, “if you want me to put down the knife, you’re going to have to shoot me.”

Another officer, Stephanie Taylor, arrived just as Richards reached the garden center of a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store.

Remington ordered Richards to stay away from the store entrance but Richards ignored him. Remington then shot Richards nine times, causing him to fall out of his scooter.

Attorneys for Richards’ family said they will now file a civil suit against Remington.

  4. Just copy and paste this crap, and spare us the speeches, just spend the time given to news conferences, to rooting out bad training officers, and DO BACKGROUND CHECKS, Publish results, and if necesary, put officers guilty of misconduct, on th Brady List. Until then, yada yada yada, that twit from Polk County sums up what talk means, a quick snooze and hopefully we won't remember all those 'bad apples', when we wake.

  5. Even the captions at the bottom of this video are a lie. It says that the man in the wheelchair was armed. At no point in this video do we see the man in the wheelchair with a weapon. He was shot in the back while riding away.

  6. The corrupt system of DA, judges, politicians, and police chief receive campaign money, endorsements , and election engineering from the police labor union, police associations, and police fraternity. In reciprocity the criminal cops are coddled, protected, or exonerated. Here, the psycho pervert sadistic blood-thirsty cop was convicted of a less charge, Manslaughter, because the DA elected to downgrade the crime in exchange for election concessions from the police labor union and police organizations. Had a commoner fatally unleashed 9 bullets into a man restricted to using a wheelchair, the DA would have charged the assailant with first degree murder.

  7. @4:03, she devoted extraordinary amount of words to justify the corrupt government watering down the 1st degree murder to manslaughter. In her own words the DA recruited other government prosecutors to investigate a government worker, a police charged with committing unlawful homicide. Basically, they are investigating one of their own. She calls this “independence “ as if the investigation and indictment will be unbiased. Instead of charged with murder the blood-thirsty ruthless cop gets the much lenient Manslaughter conviction. She calls this Justice. Obviously, she is bending over because the price is right. She calls this a win for the people.

  8. Lady, blow it out of your ass. If I'd shot that guy I'd have been in jail in seconds but because it's a cop you spend more time trying to figure out how to not charge the cop then to charge them.

  9. This whole thing was a pile of raw BS!!!! Under the definition of law, "Manslaughter", Voluntary or Involuntary does NOT fit the crime! This was "Murder"!!!! This was not an "Accident"! This was killing because of an overbearing tyrant that was butt hurt when someone didn't follow his orders! Even if the incident warranted a bullet, one bullet in the back of a wheelchair bound person was more than enough! But (9) bullets in the back to someone who could have been subdued in a legal fashion without bullets, this was MURDER!!!!!!

That crap on the end about how cops are afraid of cameras, well if they did their job in a "Legal" and "Ethical" fashion, they wouldn't have anything to be scared of!!!!! They just don't want their illegal culture and practice to be recorded!!!!
