Giving my thoughts on the importance of using consistent and reliable DPS, versus optimal DPS.

TL;DR Ease of use trumps everything else. Startling revelations you guys!
Thought this was common knowledge just do what ever works for u
i dont use explosive light since the og wendigo, for longer phases you run short, and you have the risk of loosing all of them when you die, it just didint seem like a good trade, B&S seems so dam simple to activate but i still didnt try it bcs its way simpler to get 2 autoloading like edge transit and a fusion and just hold and change weapons, i like minmaxing as much as the one next to me, but as much as i tried its just a miracle to keep pumping out perfect damage rotations in any situation whatsoever
It's never about optimal DPS, it's all about being consistent. If I have one guy pumping 3 mil 1 round, and then 1 mil the next I'd rather have someone else that can do 2 mil every time reliably.
My point on that, as someone that likes rotations, is that sometimes, the "easier is more optimal" and the "rotations are better" discourses are going so far, we should, as a community, being able to find the point where both easier and higher DPS paths cross and not fight, why during Rhulk and pantheon Nez LFRs and LMGs are good? Bc it's the only thing that you can shoot at max fire rate without needing "luck" or "skill", and as you said, you don't even need to ADS with them, why sometimes those don't work? Bc they're so easy to use that outside of those situations they lack on DPS for balance.
Why during something like Ir Yut or Oryx it's better something like Levi's or Whisper? Bc they're easy to use, but not as easy to use, which means higher DPS and very good ammo economy.
Why during planets, Warpriest and Caretaker rockets and GLs are the best? Bc you don't need something easy to use, you need very high burst with good sustained DPS, bc the damage phases are short but long enough to need sustained, and the other weapons I mentioned before, only have sustained damage.
Why against atraks it's only used burst supers and Parasite or Grand Overture? Bc those only need burst, it does not have a damage phase, just 4 seconds of burst.
Inside any damage phase you can use whatever you want, but you can always find the point where you can do a very easy damage phase, and enough damage to clear.
Even Aegis in his day 1 prep video suggests that you should favor consistency over optimal DPS loadout in that kind of scenario. First priority is to survive, and then we talk about damage afterward.
Mentioning dmg rotations without Chicken si 2 at the start is crazy. He is by far the most innovative, tho i agree his stasis stuff is a little too wild. And you gotta realise that aside from day 1 raids, dmg rotations are some of the biggest fun this game has for some people. But yeah anyone trying to make their fireteam do anything can suck it. I only tell people if they ask or we are actually struggling.
The fact is, most LFGs are dying before dmg phases and the ability to run optimal addclear is better than running an exotic heavy that i have to save for dps. Idk why man is talking about explosive light, when it has been outclassed ages ago, but i agree anything that you have to setup before hand is inconsistent.
I totally agree with your placement of cry mutiny, a surge matched GL with any slight dmg or reload assiting perk is all people need.
right now as a new player who’s caught up, i’ve found that my prismatic dps rotation is so good for run around as well as boss. all i have to do to improve it is get the class exotic item i need and craft the two weapons im using.
it’s the duality grenade launcher
sunshot (farming for z bane to free up the exotic slot)
bump in the night
obviously it’s an auto loading gl, demo rocket switch dps. but the foetracer makes things so much stronger. me and my friend were running the dual destiny mission and completing it with 35 minutes left each time. the last room with the two bosses takes us like 7 minutes.
Couldn’t have said this better, take the “Taniks DSC speed run encounter” all that’s needed is a field prep and damage perk rocket. Consistent damage over optimal damage.
This video is a pretty big exaggeration that portrays "easy consistent mouse 1 DPS" Vs. "Turbo speed runner Rotation DPS".
In reality, there's a DPS middle ground where, any players attempting day 1 at least, should be able to perform basic GL/rocket rotations at a minimum, its really not that hard. Videos like this often act as enablers for lazy players who think that they can just bring thunder lord or whisper into any raid LFG group, and anyone who complains about three-phasing is a "toxic-try hard farmer" or something.
THIS is just what it was needed to say!
dont try to replicated what yall see on the internet!
they´re called pros for a reason! just have fun and play it as you want
I completely agree with this. However, for me, it's a hard mindset to break of "i know this works i just need to get better." So ill mentally refuse to switch off until i feel like i got it down, only to always think "well maybe just a little more pratice." Then it just constantly loops.
Completely agree! Been saying this to people for years when they question good but not optimal loadouts.
I'm of the mindset of "lazy man's raiding" which is a good ad clear weapon that takes little effort ( sunshot, trinity ghoul, graviton lance ) and a good heavy and special combo for the encounter, finished off with either damage or as clear subclass again depending on encounter. This often nets me the most meaningful kills in encounters and solid damage to match, which help the team far more than a speed runner loadouts.
Also, we don’t all have to run the same damage weapons. If someone’s using whisper, someone’s using Levi’s, and someone’s using a lfr, it’s gonna be ok
tldr; skill issue
While i agree that fully optimized dps often isn't required and people who aren't familiar with higher skill rotations will have better results with easier weapons to use like basic rocket or gl dump, i think it is still important for newer players to try more optimal rotations that are outside of their comfort zone to improve at dps, as well as understanding how to make their own rotations that best suit their needs for the encounter or activity.
Thank you for this 😊
Finally someone said it.
Don’t blame the community for mid raid dps and failure the tryhards and sweats made them this way and this vid is perfect for not chasing meta and use simple tactics you probably have instead of slaving for loadouts they will dump after 1week or less the amount of times I’ve heard said same sweats argue and tell others to and to not use
LFGs using Apex Predator is such a bait, they cannot pull off BNS rotations in general. I was mopping pantheon Nez with mine and there were 4 other gg hunters with the exact same build all dealing 1/2 the damage.
I physically clapped at the 9:16. Bravo good sir.
isn't sicrobes the guy who invented and popularized horseman limiting?
I agree with all this.
This is the best dps video on youtube. Rotations are for FUN for the common audiences. It's a fun minigame to challenge yourself with, but not necessary. Break the elitism, we all hated "must have Gjally" guys, so don't become them.
This is the reason why I usually ask people to not use Rocket Launcher/GL rotations during the Sherpa runs when I teach. It's usually still gonna be a 2-phase on the majority of fights, and consistency is king over optimal big number go boom. Not dying will consistently get more clears.
Those rotations are amazing! No hate to any team using them. But, they are designed to be used by coordinated fireteams that have the time to learn them, and the patience to wait for that perfect run when everyone nails it and you get the clear.
Amazing video, Tizzle.
D.A.R.C.I. is the sole elite-tier option
man said if they raid its only for the grea and the clear…. i mean wat else is there to get lolol
There’s a difference though between allowing non optimal dps strategies and allowing someone to be a dipshit. I will never criticize the loadout of a good player.
Agreed. When in doing a carry is rather have someone stay alive and consistently reach damage phases without issue.
Thanks for the shoutout!
Completely agree, good damage is actually so simple and vastly overcomplicated by many.
It's even funnier seeing people ego others over their Stasis Hunter rotations that as you said, they would probably mess up 9 times out of 10.
It took me a little over an hour to get a near perfect clip for the rotations vid I did a while back with Stasis Hunter which while cool and impressive is vastly impractical in almost all cases.
Good video!
Niche frame perfect damage rotations are as rare as getting the pinnacle infusion you need. 😮
