Hi friends, happy Thursday!
Welcome to the Dark History podcast. Okay, so we can’t talk about SATs and college admission without mentioning Aunt Becky, remember that whole thing? But Aunt Becky wasn’t the first person ever to use money to help her kid get into college. Far from it. And there is one element of college admissions where there is a lot of money floating around, too much money. I mean we’re talking billion-dollar industry money. It’s the SATs baby. In today’s episode, we look into the history of the SATs, how it started, why we have it, why there’s so much money in it, and try to figure out who the f is even on The College Board. Who is it???
I appreciate you for coming by, and tune in next week for more Dark History.

Can we please get some “Struck by Ice Cream” merch? 😂 thanks!⚡️🍦🫶🏻
Education is such a scam. I know. I am a teacher, at least for nine more weeks.
You should do the story on heather Saul from 2015.
lets do it the taping rebellion seems interesting
I’m a bad test taker, too. On the bright side people are realizing that going to college isn’t the be all……..having a trade is (in some cases) more valuable than a college education. I remember the draft you spoke about and how if you were college material you wouldn’t have to go to war. Horrendous!!!!!!
Community colleges are the most underrated gift to our society.
My favorite thing is not only paying for the act and sat but there's also an AP test for those in AP classes. That test was another 65 or 75 I think. And it was the only way for your AP class to count towards your college classes. I heard from so many people that the test was nearly impossible to pass. All this so you could take the same class again in college later down the road and have to pay thousands more. It's lame. I hate money
I appreciate this so much I forgot my calculator ironically for my sat and did horrible and barely made it into the local college I wanted. I got a scholarship for taking it though still.
2,400,000 dollars 💵 💵
The tests are racially bias and need to be revamped. Also, I can't believe you are over 25!
You know you're an angel 😇😇😇
Bailey is speaking the truth. We live for Bailey giving us the real-life advice
yes and it still is
I need episodes on Scientology and the Tai Ping (spelling??) rebellion!!
I love how Bailey always talks about how she hates rich people but she’s literally a millionaire ☺️ love that for her
Yes, please teach us about the Tai Ping Rebellion. ❤
Bailey, have you heard of "The Whole Soy Story: The Dark Side of America's Favorite Health Food"? It popped up in my reading recommendations recently, and (for obvious reasons) the title made me think of you. Love to see the way you and your channel have grown over the years. Keep at it, gorgeous!
My daughter did very well on both.
❤❤❤
Do the rebellion video!!! Do it!!!
FRUIT STRIPED GUM!!!! YOU COULD EAT THE PAPPER!! 😂😢😭 Talk about rumors before the internet…
Yes please do a episode on the Taiping Rebellion 🫶🏾
Yes plz do the rebellion
I failed all the yearly test and got held back 3 times in 10th grade.
Dropped out then passed the GED first try :'D
10:46 I can't say it would bother me to be struck by ice cream! 🍦 lol 😂
The nclex was the worst test I have ever taken and it was nothing like what we learned in nursing school. We have to be fingerprinted and carry nothing in with us. It’s very serious and intimidating. Got to be a better way!
I'm back in school for a business degree and have a TI-84 calculator now. It has not gotten any lighter since high school. 😂
It's not just standardized testing that's rigged, but the entire education system starting with elementary school. Great episode. Had to lol at the Kaplan comments; you can tell the pod hasn't been hit with a defamation lawsuit.
Am I the only person who wants to see Bailey with purple hair after this episode
Bailey you should do an episode on the “American Plan” where they would test women for STDs and put them in prison without a trial if they tested positive. I just learned about this and it’s crazy.
do a video on Mark Latunski and Kevin Bacon pleasee i neeed the details
7 premium chocolates! Lol
❤️🌸❤️🌸❤️🌸
Long time Bailey fan- GURL! I member your church of Scientology story, and the name you gave! 10:48 😂🎉
Bailey, you should maybe make an episode about glitter. I heard some conspiracy theories about it 😮😮
I didn't study, my parents couldn't afford a tutor and I scored 1456 on the SATs… Makes me wonder how well I could have done if I'd had the resources to study.
It's really random your doing this story now my daughter is about to take her sats and I promise her a treat for doing it ,you know she likes kawaii stuff so she's getting mistory box of that stuff anyway she thought she need to get a 100% excellent grades! I said no this is because you sat down and you tried that's all i care about her effort and as her passed shows she will give 100% effort
Attempt number 3 to finish this video. I keep falling asleep cuz friend over here does a great job at what she does 😂
The background is badazz 🦇 🕷 🕸
I’m actually interested in a video about Hong ( not sure if that’s how you spell his name).
You should do a dark history on human zoos!
When I was high school (class of '87) I took the ACT and not the SAT. At the time, it depended on your university – which one they required. At the time, you had to sign up for it yourself, pay for it, and take it on a Saturday on some location within your area. However, now I am a high school teacher. Our school gives the SAT to EVERY junior at our school … whether they are college-bound or not. The students don't pay for it though. I guess the district pays for it. As a high school teacher (for many years!!) I can ASSURE you that standardized testing is just a money grubbing scheme. Making $$$ off students (and off teachers too, for that matter.)
What kind of lotion?
Standardized testing is just a scheme/scam. Yup. I said it. I think every state in the US has state-mandated testing. In Texas, our students have to pass "end-of-course" testing (for some classes – not all.) English I and II, Biology, Algebra….(I'm not sure of it, actually, because I teach an elective). The bigwigs in Texas education are just making money …. off the students and the teachers. In addition, I teach one AP class, and I think it's ridiculous. College Board is making bank off of that, while the students and teachers stress out about it. Also, as a teacher, I attended the AP workshop over the summer. It's one week, and my school paid about $600 for me to attend. My school sort of rotates which teachers go every summer because it's too expensive for every single AP teacher to attend.
I don’t know if Bailey has done this one yet but Bertha Gifford of Franklin county missouri. My coworker told me about her and I was able to find some articles on her. I’m sure Bailey wouldn’t have any issue finding it if she haven’t already did a vid about her.
My parents could not afford to pay for the cost of the SAT or ACT at the time I was suppose to take the test so I was one of the poor useless non test takers. It was a weird feeling when over half the grade is out of class taking the test in the library & then I get looked at like why are you not taking the test?
the Atlanta Public Schools Scandal broke my heart. I was a teacher at the time. IT was the movement out of Florida that basically said that unless your students were passing tests, you were a bad teacher and should be fired. This despite kids spending only 1/3 of the day 5 days a week with us under ideal conditions, and family income being the number 1 indicator of academic success.
It got to the point that it was a mass exodus (the first one). We couldn't use our sick days without penalty, and we couldn't cash out our unused sick days when we left/ retired. I had 40 DAYS of sick leave saved up. It also created a whole generation with test anxiety. I left teaching in 2021. The pandemic did me in.
I would highly recommend researching Pearson's monopoly on the education system. Not just for public education, but teacher education.
I’m a horrible test taker, and it caused me so much anxiety & stress, then having a mother who was a teacher didn’t help 😳
Oh please Bailey do a history on Scientology!!! Those creeps interest the heck out of me!
Can you do a episode about rent and landlords?
