  1. This is all pretty accurate, 40k is intentionally over the top and BIG. everything is huge. Populations, battles, setting, power levels etc. I love both settings, 40k is absolutely immense and I love it for that reason, so much lore and deep dives to get into, there's literally something for everyone in 40k. You're a furry? Space wolves. You're a porn addicted incel? Slaneesh. You're a a lawful good? Farsight enclave. I however love fantasy for the more "realistic" size, setting, and human reaction. Space marines are hard tough un emotional dudes by design. Whereas the populations and scale of fantasy allow for more emotional and relatable moments. They're both great.

  2. No no no no the Morathi argument is sound and very agreeable, I don't think it would hold in AoS unless you're a scaly but I'm not 100% on her lore there if she can turn humanoid 10/10 fantasy with Morathi cheeks

  3. Your generalizing space Marines a whole hell of a lot. When it pertains to how they feel about humanity the Salamanders and Space Wolves would fight the Imperium if it ment they were protecting civilians and at a less extent of love how the Ultramarines and many other chapters who feel it is there duty to protect humanity and then and most others wouldn't kill civilians just because let alone hate humanity

  4. I think the sad thing is that the way GW treats 40k has made its fanbase WAY more toxic since they give almost all the love to the genocidal fascists of the setting and show their actions almost always as heroic. when you see stuff like the Imperium of man slaughtering other species without remorse and having it treated as a necessary and heroic thing to do then its not hard to see why 40K has so many open Nazi's in its fanbase when the face of 40k is about killing anyone who isn't like you. so yeah no shit the fanbase attracts overt racists and nazis all the time
Meanwhile Fantasy has much less of this type of people and i think its because the Empire isn't only not xenophobic but openly works with other races for the good of its empire and allows other cultures and religions to exist. while in the meantime other races and factions actually get attention and depth. unlike the Eldar who is one of the few none overtly evil groups yet their only real depth is "oopsies we fucked up and are all dying please Imperium save us"

  5. Skaven are way better balanced than tyrannids too because they can actually lose due to being cowards instead of perfect leadership mindless drones that send spores throughout the whole world infecting everyone and are completely unstoppable without exsterminatus.

  6. There are things I think Fantasy does better, and things I think 40k does better. I like both. I was just getting into it when Fantasy got murdered and AOS happened, though, so I had more time to get familiar with 40k.
40k has Blood Angels, though. I like Blood Angels.

There are things Age of Sigmar… uh… does. To its credit. It does, indeed, do things.

  7. Being a lore nut for Bethesda titles, star wars, etc. 40k really brought me into a whole new world. Given that the lore has been built up over the span of 40 years with many books I've been listening to it keeps me enthralled with autistic infatuation. The fantasy side has been recently beckoning my attention as of late; I blame my time playing vermintide. The setting is weird and has me rather curious and wanting to learn more about the world.

  8. In a word? Character. Not to mention the novels. Sad part is today most people only know Gotrek and Felix. The most plot armored characters after named astartese. The Black Library had dozens of novels from multiple time points. By contrast everything in 40k occurs either around the Great Crusade, the late 41st or the Indomitus era.

  9. 40K is still Fantasy. If it has magic, it’s fantasy. Even Star Wars is fantasy because of the Force (and don’t come at me with midichlorians, that’s still magic even with a made-up sciencey sounding name sloppily stapled onto it) And Michael Drout, the most accomplished Tolkien scholar agrees with me on this point.

  10. "My name… Is Karl Franz – And I was born into this world, just like you."

Honestly, that line is the sole reason why I'd commit playing an Empire of Man campaign more than any of the other Total War Warhammer Campaigns. Just men and women fighting back against the darkness with good ol' fashioned human ingenuity, diplomacy, and inviolable spirit, flaws and all.

  11. I’m not gonna lie, I loved fantasy in other universes but I never got into WH fantasy until WH1 came out and I really started looking into the lore etc.

Now I’m pretty sure it’s my favourite fantasy setting.
