I think Pretorians are reformed Royals. I mean after episode VI happened, Emperor is dead and ISB is conducting investigation who f* up. So propably fired/executed the head of red security and said there need improvements (to armor, weapons, tactics). And they lack range weapons to prevent inside job, it's not hard to imagine that assasin can take one and get the outfit and kill Snoke/Emperor in his sleep. Having always more than one, only melee and anonymous prevent that.
of course, the guys who spin around in circles are soooo terrifying

This was such a stupid scene. He did not die a warriors death. He died a stupid silly death. He had every chance to leave with bo katan. And also, when he turns to bo katan and tells her to leave, there are literally 10 troops just standing there looking at him and not shooting. This has been a complete waste of a show and was just as dumb as the sequel trilogy. Star wars is truly dead. Disney has been a complete failure with star wars except for 2 times. Season 7 of the clone wars was good. And R1 was good. Every last thing they have done has been trash. Obi was trash. Resistance was trash. Visions and tales of the jedi are trash. And dont get started on the bad batch. Unwatchable. And Andor…. boring 😴. Star wars ends at episode 6.

Can you do a video distinguishing between Red Royal Guards and Praetorian Guards?

I think the Praetorian Guards originated from Exegol, much like Snoke himself. In the Darth Vader comics, Vader fought off strandcasts, which lead me to believe that Palpatine intended these strandcasts to be the successor of the Royal Guards. Hence why there were some decades before the Rise of the First Order.

its good to know the empire intentionally weakens the defenses of their highest nobility, real smart operating there. Though i suppose at that point they were more scared of a Praetorian Guard choosing whose emperor, than actually being defended from a legitimate threat
What we’ve not really seen in the trilogy films so far is force users having a nail to nail fight with a non-force user.
We’ve seen in external media that this is possible, even against some of the strongest force wielders, but imagine seeing that on the big screen and how terrifying that Rey and Kylo can’t even beat these guards together.
And this could lead to a set up with a lore dump that I’ve just made up, in which the knights of ren are stronger than than the guards and as we know, are partially force sensitive too. That could have been a great build up for a fight in the final act.
I'm in a mixed spot about this myself. I get the threat they proposed, but considering we never got to see them in action before the throne room battle in TLJ. Pointing out bad choreography and editing aside within that said battle, I honestly never got that invested with them. Honestly to me, they were no different than the red guards that Yoda took down easily. You just knew when seeing them they were going down. To me, the Praetorian guards in TLJ and the entire throne room battle not only needed more time to fix out its issues, but it is also MASSIVELY over-hyped. They should've been what the Knights of Ren were built up to be.
Same could be said too with the ones seen in Mandalorian, but not only do their mandalorian designed helmets make them look creepier, but with there being less of them AND seeing how quick they took down a great fighter like Paz, I honestly got more chills when seeing them there AND in the finale.
Meh. They aren't that intimidating compared to the Royal Guards in Legends, especially with the bargain bin fight choreography they get.
I realize exactly how dangerous the praetorian guards are and I am unsubbing because you underestimate your audience
Even after the Mandalorian Episode I still don't see them as a real thread. They may good fighters against normal People, because of some skills and mainly because advanced armor and weaponry. The need 3 people to fight one exhausted and wounded Paz Vizsla. 🤷🏻♂️
And against forced sensitives (Episode 8), which were not trained fully, they didn't stand a chance even if the match them out by 5 on 1.

I liked the mando episode but the fighting was very…relaxed compared to the Last Jedi. and they were portrayed as a lot weaker force. they lost to mando and a lil green dude. these guys were trained to take on fully grown jedi, if not a few of them.
