In 2017 I watched with my bare butt eye balls and my glasses lol. I just mean no shades or anything for the eclipse. I have extremely poor vision and gets much worse every year and even more so after falling 20 ft through (not off) a factory, rooftop. I was 27 that year and was in Fenton Missouri so was right in the path of totality, allot of folks around where we lived rented their houses out to visitors, the atmosphere almost felt electric with all the excitement and anticipation. I wouldn't normally think allot of people would care so much about it, but it was almost infectious, or like people were being hypnotized ( it was probably something more similar to mob mentality, except everyone was sharing the excitement almost acting like the camaraderie of the fans hitting the streets put calm down about ten notches. It was so bizarre because everyone was so entranced by the event that it was almost aqward after it was done. everyone snapped out of hypnotization simultaneously and either headed back home to pick back up and us locals resumed daily life(way shorter than I expected but I was not knowledgeable on the matter). Any ways, while a total solar eclipse is very magical and amazing, just be sure to enjoy it with the ones you love. It's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of excitement and hocus pocus of something that could and should be enjoyed and appreciated, not a Hysteria. Be safe and enjoy the eclipse everyone.
Can't go blind if there's no light those sun glasses are so u can't see what the sun is really doing and that the Moon is not blocking the sun it's a literal shadow blocking the reflection of the sun against the atmosphere.
The sun is not where you think it is what you see is a reflection of the sun and you'll see for yourself when u notice the moon isn't in the sky during the eclips

Ive stared at the sun all the time as a child. If my eyes were sore or i had a headache it would make me feel better. Not untill I was in Jr High I was told i could go blind or damage my eyes. Well i never had any damage so who knows if you can trust what you are told.
Seen the 2017 one in Oakridge Tennessee, what was amazing was the amount of birds seemingly trying to get to their nest then a split second, no sound not one peep…

I think the shadows through the leaves of the tree was the coolest thing to see. I have pictures of that somewhere. I would not travel any distance to see one but having the 2017 eclipse totality in my own yard was pretty cool.
