I think it’s important to note Dooku was more raw power in the early clone wars and the more control sidious put on him probably drained him

who were the Jedi that dooku and sidious killed to take their crystals to bleed?
I know that it’s Legends, but I still love the fact that Darth Plagueis believed that Dooku could best Palpatine in Lightsaber combat.
But why did Dooku get weaker?
I don’t think it was a near stalemate if you watch the duel you can see Dooku is getting worn down by Yoda and is becoming fearful, which is why he nearly crushed anakin and obiwan to escape. If the duel continued on Yoda would have won hands down. He held Yoda off for a time, but it was far from being a stalemate or even close to it.
Yoda and Dooku did not have a draw. He ran lol
I think dooku may have been able to defeat paplatine without force in his prime
Here is a new What if Idea then: What if Dooku (Alongside Ventress) Overthrew Palpatine and became the new dark lords of the Sith??
He was truly a master at the force in general. Besides his skill set, What made him so powerful is he thinks for himself. He could not be manipulated or used the way Anakin was.
Palpatine feareshim as he is a wizard in an alternative universe and also Dracula
He feared Mace, Yoda, and Jocasta Nu ( because she had the names crystal for potential new Jedi to start a new order ) more then any other Jedi.
Sidious didn't win his dual against Yoda, he just started relying on his force abilities because they were at a standstill. He didn't even win their force battle since Yoda was just closer to the edge of the pod and caused the force surge that knocked both of them back to begin with.
Bottom line is Dooku was and never was going to surpass Sidious in all out power. Dooku knew this which is why he offered Obi-Wan a chance to help him defeat Sidious. He even later laughed at Quinlan Vos who suggested they team up to kill the other unknown Sith Lord because he did not believe they could win.
I disagree with the "terrified" section. I would say, Sidious was impressed. The count was over his peak, and in this status he was able to hold the tempo of his former master, however the two fought many time against eachother as a practice. We saw in the Clone wars what happens when Sidious is afraid of something, he simply destroys the questionable "items" (Maul & Savage, and the FEAR of Maul after the events of Mandalore.)
Sidious tested Dooku every single time, and in the Revenge Of The Sith Dooku was weaker, and was no longer use for the Sith Lord. In a one-on-one fight Dooku had no upperhand, okay, he was a fine duelist, but Sidious was more agile and also his powers was far more superior than the Count's. The count was a useful playdoll in Sidious hand.
Never thought sid was good with the blade. He ether runs or force lightings. 🤔 lost to mace. Drawd yoda. Who at the time was 885 years old. Not a excuse. He did get lucky. With not falling. Sidous wasn't good with the blade. Even Darth pagauise mentions this. We will not take this with force but with skills in the shadows.

So fighting to a standstill == win. Dooku did not ALMOST win, nor did he beat yoda. Also I really don’t think Yoda “lost” to palpatine, at least not because palp was the superior force/saber user. Yoda ran out of time. Palp was able to stall and drag the fight out until he got backup. I don’t think he thought “well got lucky and forced yoda to retreat. I’m clearly 100% better than him. Nbd”. You make too many assumptions and push them as facts. Just say “some believe that” or “my impression has always been that…”. Just my opinion.
Why do people think Palp was the most powerful sith? He had the most cunning and best schemer of sorts but I think raw power, he is not even close to some others. Sabers he was clearly not. And general abilities, I mean we have Bane, exar, even Revan… list goes on. I hate the idea that just because he’s featured in the movies he must be the most powerful ever

Makes no sense why a Dark Side Jedi Master would never betray Sidious. The whole reason why Dooku left the Jedi was because he knew they were corrupt and the reason was Sidious. Not betraying him when Dooku could beat him never make sense to me. Dooku beat Windu in sparring and was on near equal terms with Yoda and this was without the dark side boost. In my view Dooku was the most dangerous threat to Sidious and his blind obendiance is just bad writing to me

I don’t think yoda or dooku wanted too kill each other and that’s why they were just dueling. Because of they’re prior relationship and the good that still existed within him I can see how dooku could have easily overthrown both and brought true peace to the galaxy

Darth sidious should be afraid of one his apprentice Dooku is one those guys with Op powers similar to Magneto from X men🦹♂🦹♂.
Darth tyrannus even hold his own against two Jedi in attack of the clones movie one of them being Obi wan while he and anakin was trying to take him down🗡🗡.
In terms of Power Darth sidious and Dooku really have similar abilities like Force lighting,force choke and excellent lightsaber skills⚔⚔.

Yoda was testing Doku and when he was finished, he calmly declared that the duel was over and Doku could do NOTHING to dispute this claim other than to run away.
I never watched that fight and thought Dooku was winging at all in fact I took it as he realized there was no way he was going to win and used Anakin and Obi-wan to escape.
I think that at any given chance Sidious brought a pen into a knife fight and become champion. To defeat One on One was not his angle with lightsaver. Sidious continues to out think the Jedi and rule with an Iron Fist and in fear and worry.

Honestly, I believe Dooku would have Sidious outclassed in lightsaber combat alone. Sidious would have to resort to force abilities against Dooku much like he did against Yoda.
No he didn't almost defeat Yoda! This is crazy, if he has not interfered obi wan would have cut duku in half.
The main thing I dislike about the novelization is that they ret-conned Dooku into an irredeemable monster that basically wanted to enslave all non-humans. There was no indication of this in the movies or the clone wars show and it strips all the depth from his character. His story was a compelling tragedy; an idealist who did terrible things in pursuit of a noble goal, only to die a villain who brought nothing but harm in the end. The novelization just makes him objectively evil with no nuance at all.
