The Russian Economy is puzzling to look at. On one hand it is the most resource rich nation on earth, on the other it somehow has a smaller GDP than Italy. It makes sense then, why, after the start of the Russian Ukrainian war, and it being subjected to the most comprehensive sanctions imposed on a major power in nearly a century, many speculated its complete collapse. Yet this never happened. In fact, it has exceeded even the most optimistic predictions, shrinking by a measly 2.1% while this year it is expected to return to growth, outpacing the United Kingdom and Germany. But how is this even possible? Has Putin really created an economy impervious to sanctions? The answer to this question is embedded within the very fabric and history of the Russian state we know of today. After all, armed conflicts are frequently determined by economic power, while the intricate interplay between history and politics plays a crucial role in shaping a nation’s economy and how it responds in times of crisis. So what is exactly going on, why has Russia’s Economy not collapsed?

  1. Grim predictions echo western propaganda, similar to what we heard when the sanctions just started.

I would like the Casual Scholar predict what’s going to happen to the West and U.S. who are practically already bankrupt.

  2. Well, Russia can trade with China that why its economy is not collapzing. Russia has a ton of natural resources while China need them, it is perfect match. Without China buying Russia's natural resources and trades, then of course, Russia's economy could have been collapsed very fast.

  3. The last 8 minutes of this video is riddled with falsehoods. Russian population has been growing not declining the last 15 years due to stabilizing birthrates and increased immigration from Central Asian countries. Also Social spending and support for the war have increased since last year not declined. I could go on but I don't want to detract too much from how good the first 37 minutes of the video was. An excellent summary of how we got here but once it moved to predicting the future it fell off the rails. Which is funny because the video points out how every doom and gloom prediction for Russia last year was wildly wrong.

  4. Lol creator of this video should study The basics first. Ruble isnt doing well, its artificially raised and manipulated to avoid economy collapse too fast. If FED would decide the value of dollar to be ~200% higher tomorrow, would its real value be three euros? Nope. Won't use next couple of hours to tell other wrong "facts" of this opinion column

  5. Well before 2022 or even 2014, Russia was estimated by the entire Western establishment to be demographically finished. Russia was already estimated before 2014 to be dying. This effort is an attempt to kill what is already dead. Also the West with its highly complex supply chains and financial systems has a lot more to lose with the slightest disruption in trade or in inefficient allocation of money — witness how in just the past few weeks emergency measures had to be taken to prevent parts of the banking system from collapsing both in the United States and in Switzerland. And let's not mention how badly the UK is off in everything.

  6. Where exactly are you getting your information? Who is buying/trading the ruble in international markets? Methinks you are just believing the Russian propaganda they are feeding you. Wow.
