  1. If India does not restrict exports and subsidize rice, it will have an insurrection on its hands. Hungry people are dangerous people, and India has more people than any other country, even more than China. India keeping its population fed helps to stabilize the country and maintain its continuity, it will not jeopardize this critical interest and any political party in India would do this. Other countries need to stabilize their food supplies with regenerative agricultural practices that require fewer inputs while providing a bounty of food. It is possible the methods to do it exist but they are not widely enough know-particularly in the developing world.

  5. In south india we are small scale rice growing farmers for generations, until last decade when we we gave up as it was a losing game year after year, now price is slightly higher but still not enough to break even, so our farms are lying empty and we have switched remaining land to grow commercial crops like coffee pepper etc

  6. Lots of talk of rice but what of wheat impacts influencing India’s concern for rice? Ukraine and Russia really hurt wheat while Central Asia restricted wheat hence India had reason to worry regarding grain in general. & what of India’s famines influencing their decisions? Things like Churchill’s famine?
