The Greeks want to buy four of these units. I assume after a few months the units will not be able to leave the port. A country that can't even afford tank ammunition. It borders on idiocy to foist a vulnerable and very expensive to maintain system on such a poor country.

The Burke class destroyers are capable of completing the missions of the LCS'. They have a fantastic layout and can be somewhat modular in creation. Given that all the work has already been paid for to design and test the hauls and combat arrays, it's cheap (relatively speaking) to just modify them slightly and roll out the new version after every dozen or so.

I guess it's always a good thing to push the boundaries when you managed your risks well, and have a realistic view on the project's vision. It's not a bad thing to take risks, but it's also not a bad thing to be a little conservative. If they can manage the balance between these two for future ship projects, I'm sure they can avoid building another LCS and Zumwalt.

The very concepts on which the LCS program were based were poorly thought out. One issue that was not covered in this report was the lack of combat survivability that was intentionally part of the class's design. They were intended to be so expendable that they would be abandoned after a direct hit.
Engineering and construction was the second, equally flawed phase. Why didn't the USN perfect the mission modules before building the ships? Why didn't the USN set up the portside infrastructure to make the module swaps practical? Heads should roll due to this incredibly inept program, yet no one is held accountable.
