Honest question, if religion does more harm than good, why does it persist over time? Wouldn't societies that didn't adopt religion out-compete societies that did over time? Wouldn't religious societies fail or struggle to survive and thus persist over time if the bad effects outweighed the good?

I don't think religion tells YOU what to do, it merely tells you what is good (according to the God of that particular religion) and what is not…usually things impacting society as a whole…then you can do what you want….and be counted as such.

Yep!! People forget that thoughts and beliefs effect the chemical make up of the human body!!! This is not woo woo, this is science. We are making DNA… the environment creates the cell… when religion = to bind again = binding spell = trauma bond has a real impact. TRAUMA bonds are addictive. This is why people don't leave abusers… they are addicted. Hence why the use it in prison and AA it's a shift of chemical high… adrenaline and cortisol(stress hormone that causes disease) of junkies… thats all they really are… which in turn makes them walking liabilities aka doesn't even have their own best interests at heart.
