Why Oscar Winner Richard Dreyfuss Is Grateful Glenn 'Outed' Him | The Glenn Beck Podcast | Ep 170

Even as an Oscar-winning A-list actor, Richard Dreyfuss never really fit in with the Hollywood crowd. “There are people who now think that opposing views are un-American,” he tells Glenn. Today, that toxic belief has been spread across the country, and he couldn’t stay silent. Having grown up communist, he’s seen this before, and he believes the root issue is simple: Our schools no longer teach civics. To fight back, he founded the Dreyfuss Civics Initiative and wrote his new book, “One Thought Scares Me.” His hope is to save America by encouraging conversations between people with opposing views. He lives by this. In his own words, he’s a “Lib-o-Conserve-o-Rad-o-Middle of the road-o,” and has been for years. And of course, he’s gathered plenty of stories over those years: Activism, drugs, James Dean, the 1960s, the consequences of celebrity feuds, the power of a good teacher … Oh, and a story about how his great-grand aunt may have assassinated a Russian Emperor.

  2. Richard is wrong about a couple of things. He said that schools stopped teaching civics in the 1970's because of what happened with the riots of the 68 convention. I grew up in the 70's. 1971, I was in first grade and we said the pledge of allegiance all the way to 6th grade. I was taught American history, all about the revolutionary war and civil war. The Presidents and Congress. Republican and Democrat parties. Our school, traveled to both Williamsburg and Philadelphia and the Nations Capitol. Maybe in the year2023 that isn't the case anymore, but speaking for my own upbringing, I'm confident in my own knowledge about what is happening in my world today because I was given a complete historical education from my Elementary School teachers who were the best educators in my upbringing.

  3. While a great actor, he is all over the place and spouting so many things that paint with a broad brush. I know so many from the WW2 generations he mentions and they weren't drug addicts or all messed up. He is trying to justify his F'ed up Generation which rebelled against the Greatest Generation because they didn't want rules

  4. Great interview Glen . I will say as Much as i respect RD on some of his thoughts . The end really showed you who he is . He says that stupid comment about TRUMP . Yet doesn’t have anything thing negative to say about the Regime PEDOHITLER in office as we speak literally wipe this country off the planet . But feels the need to talk about the only president who actually was trying to better this country in the last 30 years . DTS is a real thing especially with the California liberals. TRUMP ULTRA MAGA FOREVER 🇺🇸🦅🍊

  5. I was shocked to learn the distinction between my country and my government, so long ago, I've come to take it for granted. From this conversation, I realize it can't be overstated, now. And Civics. Diabolical loss. They still taught the Trivium: Grammar, Logic & Rhetoric. That got dumped, too, obviously.

  6. This was incredible. A guy who figured out that his success did not mean that he knew everything and sought to educate himself. I don't think its correct to lay so much blame on Trump. He is just a symptom of the rudeness, the crassness, and the lack of sophistication that permeates political discord in America today.

It would be interesting to know which books or historians that Dreyfuss felt was the most valuable to his education.

  7. I met Richard in Hollywood at canters “ when I’m modeling and acting , he was fabulous “ I said is it u” and he laughed and said is it u”” we both laughed” I was right about him. He is my sort of person”
    He is So” right glen
The school is teaching our kids literally to hate America and to fight us and to fight our parents, their parents and also to be gay and transgender or to at least think it’s great which is not OK there’s nothing OK about what they’re doing they’re teaching them about China and other countries and not our own country. When we live in the greatest country there is and now they don’t believe that it’s horrifying what they attend children in school!!

  8. The 30 days of war before Congress has to vote, was made before planes were the primary mode of travel, it was put in place so the president can make a split decision to mobilize and set the wheels in motion knowing it will take 30 + days to mobilize and steam across the ocean and in this time Congress should be deciding whether we go threw with it or not, so anytime within the 30 days he can pull them back if they vote NO or further supply the effort…it wasn't so he could bomb the hell out of an area and go nevermind were done…in 30 days now if need be the country would be left in rubble

I passed my knowledge to my son and grandchildren. Yes Civics was gone ! I taught my son my 25 yr old granddaughter who recently died was on het way to be a lawyer! She came to me always for questions concerning American History! I was shocked so shocked that nothing of pur constitution and our beginnings were taught! It did happen in the 1960's ….I was born in 1953! Love you Richard ! God Bless you!

  11. Richard Dreyfus is one of my very favorite actors of all time. His sweet role of a funny widower in “My Life in Ruins” is what made me look at some of his other movies. I loved “Mr Holland’s Opus” and “Goodbye Girl” as well.

  12. It is so heartbreaking to hear someone as smart as Richard Dreyfuss spouting "Evolution" as the reason for this behavior. As Evolution is a lie, so is this excuse.

  13. These two might as well be sitting in Antarctica talking. The battle of words has been lost to the communists. We would need to forcefully take over media, first of all,in order to stop the propaganda.Second, college curriculums would need to be changed from Wokeism 101 to MAGA 101.Third,stop most immigration.Only after those three things happened could we even think of bringing the America back that used to be(which WAS great.)

  16. Dreyfuss' most profound and disquieting statement " I have lived since I graduated from high school, in a spiral of decay". I'm a bit younger than Mr Dreyfuss, but I first began to feel the decay in my Freshman year in high school. When I was confronted with a lie that was stated as a fact in my Social Studies book.
