Why Nobody Lives In Alaska

The state of Alaska is massive, itโ€™s the biggest US state by land mass and 7 times the size of the United Kingdom (a whole nation). Now Iโ€™m sure you have noticed that very few people actually live up there in the state of Alaska though, right? Well this video explains why that is, why nobody lives in the state of Alaska. Of course some folks to live in the state of Alaska (about 700,000 residents) to be more precise, and this video also looks at why nearly a million people do choose to live in the complicated and remote state of Alaska. Thatโ€™s not all I cover in this video of course; because to really consider why so few people live in Americaโ€™s largest and most Northern state; I also had to breakdown Alaskaโ€™s history, economics, geography, and demographics. Because, while the state of Alaska may have a small population, especially for a state of itโ€™s consider size; I would argue that itโ€™s also perhaps โ€œtheโ€ most interesting state in all of North America.

Thank you so much for watching my video on Alaska, to see more content on How America is Changing (one city/state/subject at a time) please subscribe to my channel Something Different Films below

As I upload new content at least every Saturday morning; focused on how geographic, economic, and demographic changes are shifting the United States (and the 50 states, 108,000 cities, and 3,033 counties that itโ€™s made-up of).

  1. Purchasing ๐Ÿ…ฐ๏ธlaska was the greatest real estate deal in the history of the world ๐ŸŒŽโ—
$7.2 mil is what you could expect to pay for one collectible gold coin these days!
The scary part is, imagine if Russia still owned Alaska, they would have been only 2276 miles from US mainland!

  4. How can you mention "Alaska" and then "UK, France, Japan and Germany" and call them major world powers? Alaska is EMPTY, and certainly not a world power. It is not even a country. It is the emptiest state of all 50 and has the lowest GDP compared to its size. Only Vermont has less, but is ridiculously tiny compared to Alaska. Proportionately Vermont has more than Alaska.

Alaska is a state, not a country. Why do Americans say "I'm from NY" when you ask them where you from? Do Germans say "I'm from Weimar"? Or French "I am from Dijon"? We say "Germany" and "France". You're still American. Your passport says AMERICA, not New York.

  5. I'm born and raised here, it's getting worse, we have homeless, drugs, violence, and theft just like everywhere else. Here where I live we had a pre covid population of about 9,000 in S.E. Alaska, summer time w all the seasonal workers/ jewlers/ tour guides it goes up to about 12-13,000 but now post covid we've got about 15, 000 "residents" w a bad housing problem, almost impossible to get a storage unit, price of groceries cost even more up here because everything is shipped in by barge so that makes the cost of living go up even more on top of inflation… I still love my home town… I just wish it wasn't so expensive to live here
