Why more women are freezing their eggs | DW Documentary

Mothers in industrialized countries are older than ever before at the birth of their first child. Many women postpone having a child. To make this possible, they freeze their eggs.

Since the 1970s, the average age of first-time mothers has risen steadily. However, as women age, the risk of infertility increases. To minimize this risk, more and more women are having their eggs frozen during their “most fertile” years. In this preserved state, eggs can be kept in a kind of cryogenic torpor for a long period of time, during which all metabolic processes come to a virtual standstill. After thawing, the eggs can be transferred to the uterine cavity following artificial insemination.

In a society where life seem less and less predictable, this reproductive technology seems to offer some women the opportunity to control their fertility. But what are the costs of the procedure? Does it take a toll on health, emotions and finances? And how likely is pregnancy? The film discusses the possibilities and pitfalls of the practice of freezing unfertilized eggs.

  3. women wants to be a mother at the age of 45 – 50…….. at the age when she herself is more towards death n when she herself have lost almost half of her energy……….this is nothing but business………..it has nothing to do with wellness……… people will realize it but when the damage is done just milking the female ego………….all this because the man tells that going out and earning money is more important than building a healthy society…………….

  4. Most of the donors don't have that knowledge and specialization in the field of fertility and therefore they can't find out how many eggs have they produced and what the company is doing with their frozen eggs, they have no control over their eggs!
If a single egg that can be fertilized with one sperm costs thousands of dollars in the US, these companies can manipulate and steal one frozen egg from every single woman which amount to thousands of individuals, and then they can sell them really easily without having the owner of the egg knowing about the whole thing.
    It's such an undependable industry…

  5. What is says about Israel is accurate. Freezing eggs funded by HMO only if there is medical indication. Also in Israel- abortion is unfortunately is still restricted by law if the woman is married. So women in Israel isn't really free to decide when and how many children to have.

  7. There's another documentary which I think is from DW itself that has interviewed some of the Spanish girls that have donated their eggs. They all regret it, one I remember was really emotional about the fact that she couldn't know if there were kids with her DNA out there, where and if they were well treated, etc. Also, you receive a lot of hormonal shots for a long period which gets your system quite crazy. And they earn very little, usually, it is aimed at student girls at University.

  9. What if you freeze ur 🥚 and end up never feeling the need of having a child, I'm 44yrs old and honestly never felt the need of having children. I love life without kids. Very easy and happy. Though my wife have kids I love them but I still think if I was born again I will love no kids 🙂

  10. It is so complex as a ordinary southindian to understand the importance of children's in this documentary. I believe becoming a father is a respect, responsibility, fortune, affection and goes on. It is not just a relationship with a women. Being loyal with wife and leading the happy life and a helping hand of the family. Where freezing the eggs and getting birth will not be moral of real life. It's a Riddle for me to understand and glad that I doesn't know.

  11. They are freezing their eggs because modern women do not know how to stay in a relationship with an actual man…they don't know how to do much of anything anymore.

  12. Modern women: Educated, Highly intelligent, highly competent; yet lost, confused, and full of disillusion. I feel sorry for them.
I appreciate what professional women have accomplished and contribute, but it appears maybe some of the traditional values and qualities of the past still have their place today.
Modern feminism pans out be one of the biggest cons a women may ever experience in her life.
