Military experts have called Iran’s ariel attack on Israel on Saturday night ‘ambitious’ and warn it could push an already fragile region into a dangerous new phase.
On the Sky News Daily, host Matt Barbet examines how Iran and Israel’s ‘shadow war’ has moved out into the open, alongside defence and security analyst Michael Clarke.
Matt is also joined by Dr Roxane Farmanfarmaian, affiliated lecturer in international relations of the Middle East at the University of Cambridge, to examine what Iran was really trying to achieve from its attack.

Iran has been suffering ever since it took an assertive approach to its share of mineral resources wealth. Ever since the US and UK have been supporting corrupt Shahs and overthrown democratically elected leaders such as mossadegh in 1953. Even the current stance of the west has been largely fueled by the introduction of the so-called buy-back contracts for oil and gas leaving western international oil companies as mere service operators. The other part of the explanation is that Israel has found Iran a n useful proxy enabling it to deflect from its occupation of the Palestinians and its own nuclear force. Iran’s involvement in the countries in the Middle East is mainly in response to external threats, real as evidenced by western backed Iraq attacking Iran. Different from what we continue to be told. Iran has mostly taken a rational approach.

Israel has been assassinating Iranian scientists for decades. Israel and its proxies like the USA and UK have been supporting anti-Iranian terrorists like the MKO and others. Israel has pushed its proxies (like the US and UK) to put economic sanctions and blockades on Iran. Israel tasked its supporters in the US media and entertainment to unfairly villainize Iran which led to Iranians living abroad to be attacked and harmed.
The USA had overthrown Iran's democracy in 1953 and reinstalled a puppet dictator who tortured and murdered Iranians opposing the West's neocolonialist exploitation of Iran's resources.
Iran endured all this bullying for decades. Also, Iran saw their brother Palestinians being persecuted and oppressed; and Iran has sympathy with all the other people around the world that the collective West has persecuted like African nations, SE Asia, and S America.

– After the revolution in 79, they financed and helped arm Saddam to invade Iran in an 8 year war that killed between 1-2 million civilians.
– The West has being imposing sanctions, including on medicines on Iran since 1979, including flu vaccines that that now kills a huge number of people every year. Iran has 50% of its foreign exchange reserves frozen by the West.
– The US reneged on the nuclear deal agreed on and supervised by the major world powers because in the words of Trump, it was a 'bad deal' – (read Israel made them)
– The West has been banging the drums of regime change and has tried to instigate numerous colour revolutions in the country and its intelligence agencies support anti-regime terrorist groups.
– And Israel (which is the West based on its so called 'values' and more importantly the origin of its people) has routinely attacked and assassinated politicians, scientists, and infiltrated the country with spies.
– And now all this.
So I would say Iran has probably got reasons for 'hating' the west.

Interesting how this Yanksplaining bullshit begins with the Islamic Revolution in 1979 instead of the British and American orchestrated coup of the democratically elected Mohammed Mosaddegh in 1953 due to him nationalising Iran’s main oil company that was entirely controlled by the British government, ‘The Anglo-Persian Company’ (now British Petroleum). The UK wanted control back but the US had their own motives for getting involved so they forced the UK into accepting a multinational privatisation of Iran’s oil industry. The Iranian people were against all of this but had no say because the Anglo’s said so and made it so. On top of this, there are 70 more years of reasons for Iranian’s to hate America and it’s minions Israel and the UK.
Since Iran violated Jordanian airspace, Jordan should let Israel use their airspace. Why wouldn't any sane person not target Iran's nuclear weapon development facilities?
