Why I'm CONVINCED Overwatch 2 WILL Be a Success

After playing the OW2 Beta, I am convinced that the full game will be a major success. Here is why.

  1. I think new ranked system/competitive mode need hero draft system with unique picks in each game and 1 ban/team (and remove repick system) or game meta become stale to fast because OW2 don't have a lot of complex mechanics to change how ppl play like in Mobas, less tools exist > less options to innovate

  2. The beta (and this is not being said as a criticism) has felt targeted at OWL. Build some interest/hype and test the client, characters, and exact same map pool at scale for stability etc to try to make sure that when 80k people tune in to watch OWL they aren't seeing games frequently encounter bugs etc. Buggy OWL launch would have been catastrophic to the reputation.

  3. Let's not forget Overwatch was one of the most hyped games of the decade. So that means people really really liked it. People left the game because of the Blizzard controversies, lack of good updates and the toxicity. I really like overwatch and i want the sequel to succeed

  4. Healer skill floor is up. DPS skill floor is down. DPS is now more accessible because it requires less strategy to get kills.

A greater percentage of each team that queues is comprised of DPS, which means faster DPS queuing.

Easier DPS with faster queuing. It’s probably the single greatest problem in OW1.

  5. I kinda wish they’d made the ow2 beta something like smash 64 with 8 characters. I’d get overwhelmed if they added a new hero every few months, at the same time someone like Rein just feels outdated in the game. Woulda been cool to just release reworks as they went.

  6. @2:18 This is what I've always held out hope for OW to do; correct course by catering to their massive non-pro playerbase and release way more content/heroes/maps. Honestly, I don't think we'll see it potentially until Microsoft takes over, if they want to take the game in that direction. It would be really cool though if OW2 actually became the game where we saw a new hero every quarter (which is a pretty modest ask of 4 heroes/year) and a plethora of new content (maps/game modes/events) released regularly to keep the playerbase active and engaged.

  7. Honestly I had no faith in OW2 and I was pleasantly surprised, there’s still issues of course but it feels like 2016 again at least in that the game feels fast paced and like an fps again

  8. Always appreciate your level-headed approach to things, SVB. The community is lucky to have you. I think you're exactly right about this beta. Everything we're seeing looks good so far, but we need more. Even though the beta is fun, it gets tiresome very quickly if you're solo-queuing and wanting to play some real games. Since there's no MMR or anything, most games are just frustrating right now if you slip into the mindset of taking them at all seriously.

Which is the exact same problem OW1 has if you're a solo player. More than new heroes or maps or any other changes, Overwatch desperately needs built-in social infrastructure like a guild or clan system. IMO that's the biggest thing the game needs to be really good. At least, that's what I'm going to need if I'm ever going to seriously invest time and energy into this game again: for most of my time playing to be more fun than frustrating.

  9. I would say after this first beta and peoples reaction time is not in their side they have a chance to redeem themselves even more with these next betas but also release date

  10. How much chaos it would be? It's supposed to be a sequel. Treading new ground is kinda the entire point.
And how about one or two support heroes added. It's sad how few healers we have.
