Why I Stopped Playing New World Beta

Update: Since recording, this video Amazon Games has released a patch that seems to have fixed the issues with New World and the 3090 cards. I am still a little worried about it but will test and feedback some more later in the beta.

Check out this video where they test the EVGA 3090 in New World to try and break it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpvsaedeeqg

  1. It was only the cards from EVGA and they have said that they will replace all the cards that died.
They probably had some different transistor or something that wasn't cooled when the card worked at 100% for a long time.

The main reason why the game killed the cards was that in the queue menu, the graphics cards would render that simple screen at uncapped framerate. As it was so simple, the card probably put out thousands of frames per second with no rest.
I think it was StarCraft 2 that had the same problem with its main menu before they put a cap on the max number of frames.

  2. They did put out a patch fix for this issue. It had something to do with unlimited frame rates and the starting area. They have capped the frame rates at 90fps to solve the issue.
Keep in mind that this was happening to EVGA 3090's ONLY. No other cards were being affected in this manner and they also went a step further than most companies would by stating that if their game was the cause of your card getting fried, they would replace your card for you free of charge.

  3. My main computer is somewhere between minimum and recommended hardware requirements. The game set my graphics settings to low (no surprise), and even then my fans were jumping up to high speed, so something(s) were running hot. I capped my FPS and everything is running cool now. No crashes at all so far.

Even at the low settings the visuals look good to me. If they can tune/optimize so people aren't burning up their video cards, it ought to look amazing at high settings.
