  1. They don't. This is where veterans who are members of the union screwed incoming players. The union members voted for and approved the CBA that allows for both the rookie pay scale and the franchise tag. Of course the vets vote for that. If the rookies can't get paid, more of the salary cap money goes to the vets. So incoming RBs are on the scale, and by the time they're ready for their 2nd contract, they're already over the hill. Very few RBs are worth anything after 5-6 seasons.

  2. The NFL should just compensate starting running backs if teams won't. They make more money to do so. Ya it's true that running backs run out of steam i their prime with the exception of backs like peterson and gore. But they deserve compensation for being the bell cows.

  3. they killed the running back with all the rule changes making it easier to throw the ball, now they are completely expendable they used to be the teams back bone back in the 70s and 80s

  4. Any shenanigans they do with the RB's salary and the salary cap is just going to give more money to the QB. Jones, who was playing for his career last year, got $40M/yr BECAUSE Barkley carried the offense. Sure, Zeke ran into the RB wall, but he carried the load before he injured his knee and got Dak paid because of him. I doubt Dak would still be in the league if he didn't have a really strong running game early in his career.

I would love to see a lot of these QBs who are supposed to be so great play without a top RB. Allen, Jackson, and Hurts do it because they are the top RB. (But for how long?) Mahomes has shown he can do it from the pocket as can Burrow and Rodgers. I'll be curious to see what happens in Dallas if Pollard can't handle RB1 load and still be productive. What will Minnesota look like without Cook.

  5. I’m a 30+ year NFL fan. As much as I loved the passing game, the uptick of the last 20 or so years have led to some big consequences. Like the fullback has been phased out. And running backs used and valued less than ever. There’s only 5-6 guys keeping the running game alive.

  6. I never understood why a RB is worth 30% what a WR who gets the same yardage.
RB is less risk= Elimination of int, easier for a QB to hand off than stay in pocket risking getting hit, etc.

Ok, shorter career- so what. Don’t sign a 5 year, get a 3 year. Many players come in on a prove it 1 year.

  7. I’m writing this comment before getting into the video so I apologize if what I say is in the video 😂😂 But the question was “Why does the NFL hate RBs?” Yes, the league has become more pass happy, but let’s actually take a look at the running statistics. RBs have indeed been devalued, but it’s not just because teams are passing more. Last season had the highest rushing yards per game since 1987, and the last 5 seasons have been the highest ypc in NFL history with last season being the highest. This isn’t due to the RB position though. This is due more to the evolution of the QB position where we’re seeing more and more QBs that get out and run. So why would teams want to play big money to RBs when they’re accomplishing even better results rushing since they started to pay the position less? Of course RBs catch the ball more now, so perhaps maybe the NFL can come up with a new position. Maybe we call it a flex back, and to qualify as a flex back a running back has to catch x number of passes/game played in addition to x number of rushing attempts. Maybe this would allow for a different valuation for those RBs like Ekeler and Saquon who do it all.

  8. Unfortunately teams are gonna see what the Chiefs did and just follow their model of having the lowest paid RB room and stacking everywhere else as the game moves even more towards passing. They'll sign low draft rookie rb's wear them out and discard them and keep repeating this process whilst maybe retaining one vet RB who can act as a short yardage back and a mentor for aforementioned rookie.

  9. Problem is RBs don't look at the perspective of short careers and destroyed bodies. They would be the 2nd highest payed in the league if they took their health seriously but they want whatever cash they can get.

  11. Not all players in this position deserve the same pay, but Jacob and Pollard make since and the Giants did the opposite for their players worth. You can't say yes to Daniel Jones and no to Saquon Barkley. You can talk about how long they will last but if you don't have superbowl plans within that time, don't have superbowl plans within anytime.

  12. In any offense your running back touches the ball the most behind the center and quarterback. Modern 3 down backs (Saquan, Ekeler, Chubb, Jacobs) are given somewhere between 3-400 touches a year. That's insane. If I'm them Im pushing to get the "rb" position eliminated. Something new needs to replace that term since they're also getting about 60-100 RECEPTIONS A YEAR LOL.
