  1. Thanks for another fine video, Mr. Butler! I can feel the tugging home. The food is something that always surprises folks- they have this idea of bland macaroni and cheese. Nope

  2. I left nyc in 2008 and came to detroit! Best decision ever! I became a homeowner at age 25! Not many folks can say that! And I bought my house cash too! No mortgage for me! Everything about detroit is great! 🎉 nice video thanks

  3. Detroit is an extremely horrible city. I wouldn't recommend anyone move there. They are behind in everything. If you want to see a city filled with a fear laden, ignorant people…. be my guest.

  4. I’ve always been curious to go to Detroit and never been. Whenever I’m
in Michigan, I visit the northern part in Traverse City. I would ask in small talk about Detroit that the locals referred to as “south state”, that very few even venture to. I hear similar answers referring to the auto manufacturers bust and the city is dilapidated and high crime. I notice that TC is predominantly Caucasian so I am skeptical of the views of the older generation. It sounds like the city has changed and a new Detroit post auto industry is emerging. I will add to my bucket list to visit 😊.

  5. I have lived in Philadelphia, New Jersey and Chicago. I now live a mile from Detroit and work in the city of Detroit. I love it here! Detroit has everything other big cities have…entertainment, professional sports, water sports, restaurants and a beautiful river front…facing Canada. Again me and my family love it here. Detroit is in fact a hidden jewel.

  6. I lived in Detroit my whole life I never heard someone use cost of living and Detroit in a positive sentence

It’s definitely a dope city but it’s a stretch to call it affordable

  7. What do you tell people with kids or planning to have kids? I work in Detroit, would love to live in the city but I live in the suburbs and pay taxes out the ass for better schools than the city can offer.

  8. The city income tax is 2.4% so people move to the city their first year thinking it's going to be affordable but once they realize what they spent on just city income tax they'll move on to the suburbs. If you make $1,000,000 a year you're going to pay $24,000 and realize it's a waste for the services you get.

  9. Zoom in: Detroit is losing residents, too. Census figures — which determine the allocation of federal funding and inform research — show a loss of 7,150 residents from 2020 to 2021.
    Axios Detroit says no.
My friends live there and disagrees.

  10. DETROIT (FOX 2) – The US Census Bureau says Detroit’s population has decreased once again. The city of just over 632,000 people has dropped by nearly 8,000 over the last couple years.
    Sorry 🤷🏻‍♂️

  12. I live here. I really enjoy living here, but I believe you should give prospective Detroit residents some honest truth:
5 years ago 2 of my childhood friends- my next door neighbors, and 2 others were murdered on my block in the month of February alone. 3 others were murdered within 4 blocks within four months. You should tell people before they move here, that we still have a very REAL problem with our 911 response, and violent crime. That is if 911 answers our calls. DPD is notoriously slow, and prefers to catch criminal after-the-fact, relying on cameras instead of having enough officers to patrol our streets. They made my friends' murders a cold case in 10 days.
Just last week a Free Press writer wrote how he had to wait more than 25 minutes for an ambulance while he was having a stroke right downtown. My personal experience was the ambulance never arrived while I was seizing, and when my fiancé went to see if it might arrive, she scared off the thugs who were breaking into her car. I love my neighborhood. My family and I have owned this home for 50 years, and we've lived in the city for 4 plus generations. Unfortunately our council and our mayor- this administration, and the previous ones, give our tax dollars to the Illitches, Dan Gilbert, and other millionaire, who could afford their own projects, rather than hiring more 911 operators, more police, and more fire fighters. ☹

  18. It's so so sad to know what has happened to Detroit historically and wonderful to see the city come back to life slowly over recent years. As a person who is from that area has lived out west for most of my life, it's hard because the cost of living here is SO much higher and we also don't have great city services yet we pay so so much in taxes. Property tax here is insane expensive, too.
