Why Are Kiwis So Fat & In Denial?

Kiwis try and imagine themselves as a nation of outdoorsmen.

Fit, buffed rugby players.

Gold medal Olympiad female rowers.

When in-fact New Zealanders are just the opposite.

We are now the third fattest nation in the OECD.

The truth is Aotearoa is The Land of the Big Fat Bellies.

And the number of fat people in New Zealand is growing along with the holes in their belts.

All because – I’m arguing – we live in country that is too politically correct to call a spade a spade.

A fatty a fatty.

The unwritten yet clear government policy is now.

Obesity isn’t down to personal responsibility.

Somehow it’s complex…whatever that means.

And this is literally killing Kiwi’s.

  1. as a natural born NZ citizen who has lived abroad for 10 years – my feelings about NZ and its culture have only ever been confirmed with time. No country is perfect and the west is in decline (as much as a cliche it is to say) – but NZ is really in a special kind of mess. With little to no sign of coming out of it. History shows that cultures tend to develop by finding balance between the different collective drives at play within the population. The cultures which survive are the ones that strike that balance well. The problem with NZ it seems is that it is so remote and alone – it lacks the external pressures which usually provide the impetus to drive and define a culture. Instead, it is torn up in issues that drag NZ power and culture down, is open to degenerative influence from the outside – and the people who hold power or influence seem to prefer pretending like its not running itself into the groud. All of this is a bit of a generalization – but its so completely gone – i really dont imagine much good ever coming from it, besides more sheep, more sleep, and more and more health problems like the one in this video

  2. There used to be health camps in new Zealand for the skinny, undernourished kids. Now we need them for the fat ones. Compulsory cooking and budgeting classes would help this issue. Parking the car and walking more would help the waistline and the wallet.

  4. Having returned after 15 years in Asia I believe my ‘home’ is the most passive aggressive, arrogant cult on earth. It has some of the highest suicide and bullying stats in the world, is so lonely and alienating – it is the most intolerant place I have ever lived yet brags about how it is the opposite
