Why Animating on Lackadaisy Was Different

The Lackadaisy Pilot stands its ground in the history of 2D Animation. In this video I’ll tell you how it was made, the challenges it faced, the wonders of crowdfunding, how I got involved in it as an Animator, and the power of “You got the job”.

It is no exaggeration when I say Lackadaisy changed my life’s course. This animated production was unlike anything else, and it was a dream come true to be part of a Lackadaisy Animation.

  1. Thanks for sharing this! I love how you spoke about competition, how everyone was just elevating each others work simply by seeing each others process. As someone who gets motivated by “being inspired” (in other words, having my competitive nature engaged) I loved hearing how it could be applied specifically to benefit a project

  2. Hell yeah. If anyone remembers Vlambeer but they even streamed working and coding… T'was wild. Lackadaisy was also very inspiring for me as an animation student since web01 and deviantart days. The tutorials and guides by Tracy were frankly amazing.

  3. I think the most amazing part of working with experienced people is that they help show to you that it's so approachable, so doable– like in real time they just did it lol. Great job in everything you've done!

  4. this makes me really sad cause man, I wish I could have something like this to dedicate my time and effort into instead of a dumb job. Being able to be a part of such a huge team and make something so cool sounds like a dream come true, and you'd have an excuse to do nothing but draw all day cause it'd be like, your freakin job… I think I should've gone into art school

  5. Beginner level 3D modeler here, hoping to eventually figure out environment design and then 3d animation in order to achieve my artistic goals of some kind of animated series. Becoming part of a team, one of many working on a project, does seem like the way to kick off your career as a legitimate artist. For now the future is uncertain, and I can only try to steadily work towards the skills to make some moderately popular online animations, one day at a time.
Also as a side note in the process of going to watch the pilot I figured out and resolved the reoccurring fear and apprehension that had been constant whenever I considered watching an animation, so the team gets maybe a little credit for that.

  6. I wish the film projects I worked on was as inspiring and wholeheartedly welcoming as this project. I’m a Mocap body actor can also do voices but I never worked on a crowd funded project. Everything I worked on was passion base and it’s became hard to support such projects. I absolutely love the environment around Lackadaisy it’s so refreshing to see projects of passion that work out wonderfully. I just wish more passion projects could be funded properly. It’s so difficult to dedicate time to a project when you can’t support yourself during the projects production.

  7. as a young animator I think this is just one of the most inspirational independent works I've ever seen, and seeing this perspective from the team is sparking me with joy in this rut that I've been in, this makes me want to create, and create I will because this video.
to lackadaisy and it's team I tip my hat!

  8. This video has REALLY inspired me. Ever since I was young it has been my dream to be an animator and to work in such an astounding project like this. But, as time goes on and it gets closer and closer to me actually going down that pathway in college, I realize I’m unprepared. Thoughts like, “I don’t even practice the basics”, “I really don’t know anything about this”, and “Would I even be a contributing part if I do make it?” have haunted my thoughts for the longest time. Seeing this video helped me realize I have so much more time than I think to grow and I don’t have to be completely perfect to be an animator. Actually seeing the process that everyone went through to make the pilot happen sparked my joy for the art again. So thank you so much for this video!
