  1. @04:44 is land formation really a bit different 800 years ago? Canterbury seems much closer than nowadays to french land and Brittany looks funnyly pointy I dont recognize in modern france map.

  2. The Krakow province was not given to the person elected by the rest. It was given to the oldest member of the Piast dynasty. Or at least that's how it was supposed to be, because there many examples of local rulers ignoring this rule

  3. I think it’s also important to note that the Albegensians denounced the flesh as coming from the devil, and often pillaged looted and murdered across the area seeking to liberate people from their worldly goods and lives. Plus conversion to this faith mean that Toulouse didn’t have to pay taxes. Also, marriage and having kids was frowned on as it brought souls to the land of the devil in the material world.

They were not about equality and liberation from the Papacy. It was a denial of all material things to the point of forcible separation.

  4. Please dont do more videos on medieval poltics on the iberian peninsula till you understand it better. It means a lot to some of us and your interpretation smells a lot like the basic/mainstream Spanish/Castillian interpretation which is filled with holes and politicals biases. Love the Channel tho😊

  5. It would be great if we got a video or series about the Albigensian Crusade (read: Genocide). Too many people are either unaware of this genocide, or they justify it, all while hypocritically going on about their own "martyr" stories. It's sickening.

  6. Your video is interesting and very well made, but it has 2 major flaws in my opinion.
First, you do not demonstrate why 1224 was the "worst" year to rule, because you analyse stability through modern criterias, instead of focusing on Middle Ages' political habits and mentalities. Dynastic problems (and the solutions people found at the time, which we find really bad, like the one in Poland) were very common, and arguingly much worse in France 2 centuries later. Rather than a chaotic period (which it wasn't compared to the post-Carolingian or the Black Plague), the beginning of the 13th century in Europe still was a period of economic and political development, following the 12th century. As you told, monarchy grew stronger in France and Spain (contrary to England), Frederick II, in spite of all his difficulties, was one of the greatest emperors, cities grew bigger, religious orders came to life etc.
Secondly, it is a serious mistake calling the anti-Cathares crusades a genocide. I would be very curious to learn on which evidence and historiographic sources you rely. As far as I know, not a single historian defines it as a crusade : killing heretics is not enough to define a genocide, however horrible it was. Such crusades were common during the Middle Ages and throughout Europe (especially in the East). The Albigian crusade is specific due to its political side, with the reinforcement of the French monarchy (which shows that even if Louis VIII died quickly, it wasn't such a bad period to rule, since he expanded Capetian power).
