Who Was Evelyn? Solving a Death Valley Ghost Town Mystery With My Sister and the Shoshone Museum

Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #772
Date of adventure: 2/2/24

I’ve driven through a place labeled “Evelyn” on the map dozens of times — and always wondered what it was. Nowadays it’s just a lone tree and a big asphalt circle — but at one time it must have been some kind of settlement. Join me as I enlist the research powers of my sister, who works at the Shoshone Museum, to unlock the mystery of what went down at this lonely speck in the middle of nowhere!

  1. Hi Wonderhussy, very interesting, informative story about Evelyn, also very very nice to finally meet the whole face your sister….such a pretty woman, i'm not understanding why she was so timid about being on camera, she's a looker just as you are😜you are both quite attractive, and lovely people. your old timey friend in sparks

  2. Railroads back then needed water and/or fuel every ten miles. And the same for track repair crews. Some of those camps such as Shoshone and Lone Pine turned into towns. Most faded away, such as Evelyn and Searles.

  3. Very cool Sarah!!! I saw what was probably the same YouTube video on Evelyn which you mentioned….the focus in that one was more on the mystery of the circle as opposed to the history of the town, so I really enjoyed your "deeper dive" into the history –not only of the town, but of its namesake as well! I loved learning the history piece of this story, and it was fun to see your sister in the video too! Thanks very much for the video and for all the work you put into it! 🤠

  4. Ran into, not literally, not one, but two Sears and Roebuck houses next to each other in a Kansas City,mo neighborhood.
Looked like square sections of some kind of plastic?fiberglass?metal siding? Maybe other weird material to make like fake shake shingle or tile roof. You can surely “ mail order” a house today. But you don’t get a useful catalog for the construction outhouse

  5. My sister who still lives in Seattle called me tonight and I shared this story with her. I told her to visit your adventures just 5 minutes ago. When we were younger she joined me in my vans for road trips. Maybe I can invite her on my next road adventure, could be down your ways…..Keep on keeping all of us smiling!

  6. Wow! That's an interesting story about….hmm, nothing! Thank you so much evely….i meant Wondercutie! 😍 But seriously, i think they should set up some kind of marker or story board at Evelyn site for future generations. Thank you so much for this history lesson.

  7. Shoshone has a walking tour! Whodathunk? It’s one thing to read a period book with dated language, you shouldn’t bring the language out of the book. Especially when the book used the word “black” and you were saying “colored”. Why invite unnecessary travails?

    But another great show.

  8. Hi Miss Hussy. From Morongo Valley Califonia. Calico Bruce and I have visited Shoshone several times and enjoyed stopping in at the little historical building and checking out the stuff and talking to the staff. And it’s awesome to see a house that was ordered from the sears catalog. We are adventure too. We mostly explore camp out and chill in the mines off calico. Calico Bruce has been exploring the mines for over 30 years. If you get a chance check out Teardrop trekkers change in horizon California conundrum. And you see Uncke Bruce (Calico Bruce) in action. If your up to it we’d love to show you the ins and out off the mines. 👍👍👍. Love your videos.

  9. Oh yeah! And Furnace Creek. I totally thought it was named after someone. But last year when we camped out there. I realize 🤔. Nope it’s super hot like being in a oven. We are still trying to get the 9am tour at the aramagosa opera house. Hopefully this year 👍

  11. Thank you for all you share. You are inspiring even in your depression because many live with it including me,but can never really express it like you do. I live in Laughlin and work in Bullhead City. In May an ex gf Vegas abused me (details I can't share) I have been diagnosed with PTSD. I am not the same person I was before. I am going to give notice at work next week and once my house closes. I am going to get a runaway trailer and become a snowbird. I moved down here from Montana and I have kids and grandkids there. You are incredibly inspiring. I am 1 of thousands that would like to give you a hug. I know something about what you dont mention is trust issues. It is a real part of this. I have given trust too easily and get devastated when it is broken. I feel like prey to a certain type of person. ❤
