And over the years we have gotten a glimpse at a few of the “villains” we’ll be facing, but who is going to be the end boss in all of this? Who is going to be the real big bad in Overwatch lore? (No, It’s not Bobby Kotick) Let’s have a look.

Reaper was so badass in that first trailer it made me want to learn how to use him.

They have SO MUCH potential with Sigma! Imagine an epic boss fight against him, maybe even one like the boss fight *SPOILERS for Jedi: Fallen Order incoming* against Vader that you CAN'T WIN! I'd love to see a boss fight like that in the Story Missions :p Just fights against other playable characters would be cool, like Ramattra. But ye, I hope the big bad behind it all is something cool like Anubis… or maybe it's the Iris 😉 whatever that is anyway :p GREAT VIDEO!!
It's probably Anubis. as Ramattra said in one of his interactions with pharah, he says she should have destroyed it

Here’s a theory – Talon has harnessed Anubis. They like collecting statues (we know this as Château Guillard features a statue, Malevento is under Talon control and features a statue, Rialto has a statue, Paris, which might be Maximillion’s map, has a statue)especially Greek statues – Greek Gods, kind of like God Programs. We know Anubis took the role of, well, Anubis, the God of Death. Maybe The God Programs are hidden within statues of Gods, and Talon collecting them essentially allows them to harness the God Programs – that might be why Ramattra is happy to work with them, because Talon can provide God Programs for Ram to control. I’m thinking the OW team will take down Ramattra, but not before they realise he wasn’t the one behind it. They find traces of God Programs, and link it to Talon, who release the God Programs and begin the new Omnic Crisis. We then take them down one by one, starting with agents like Widow and Sombra, then Council Members like Reaper, Moira and Max, before finally taking down Doomfist and stopping Talon.

I feel Sombra's conspiracy will reveal a bigger bad guy than Talon, Overwatch, or God ais. Sombra's conspiracy apparently showed her something that "changes everything" and if you look at the plans of the og Project Titan and the ow3 MMO: my guess is that there is a group that is trying to push humanity into the next civ/tech stage–note the explorations into space and teleportation… So, maybe Sombra learned no sides matter in these wars because tech advancement is the only goal for the conspiracy. So maybe Talon, Overwatch, Nullsector, Junkers… they will all eventually have to group up to fight an external threat to earth (ow3 mmo plot probably). This secret group/conspiracy Sombra discovered would be pushing advancement asap by any means so humanity can fight off an 'alien' external threat to earth. And by 'alien' i mean maybe something like alt dimensions/timelines a la Valorant(explains how multiple heroes could exist in a ow3 mmo, pve, and pvp on different teams), be it time travelers attacking the past to prevent an event(Project Titan's plot had you time traveling to defeat enemies), or even an actual alien threat (omnics were originally aliens in concepts). Either way, I can see Sombra learning that these events were done on purpose (First omnic crisis, etc) and realizing sides don't matter, Earth is going to have to prepare for a war from an external threat.

Also, Anubis is not a sentient ai, atleast definately not like Aurora was sentient. God ais are an organizing program that maintains systems. Like traffic, as we saw in the short, but on a global scale. Anubis managed ecological stability. For whatever reason, Anubis chose to try and exterminate humanity.
Ramattra would see Anubis as his creator, but he did not agree with what it did, his short story touches on this. Ramattra is fighting to prevent omnic extinction ( frankly he is forced to either do nothing and watch all his kin be killed off eventually into extinction, or he atleast could put up a fight (with newly manufactured nonsentient drone omnics making up the majority of the forces, no loss there) at the CHANCE it prevents omnic extinction), but he seems to be defaulting like Bastion did in the Bastion short: defaulting to Anubis created base war programming due to trauma. And for R-7000s that base programing is "commanding omnics into war against humanity" so I wouldn't be suprised if Ramattra ends up defaulting so deeply he ends up becoming more like Anubis than he'd like.
It seems those brain washing caps we saw in trailers are a temporary means of controlling sentient omnics until the war is won, then the caps can be taken off and free will is gifted back. Meanwhile, a containment breach from one of the comics, we had Anubis straight up permanently try to kill/corrupt an omnic so it could control its body, so the omnic shot itself before Anubis could fully take control. Anubis is willing to kill sentient omnics for host control, I don't think Ramattra would do that, atleast not yet…
Ramattra really is only fighting to prevent omnic extinction, but he is too hasty in the attempt to save as many omnics as possible, that he is becoming more and more radical, willing to deny sentient omnics free will with those mind control caps if it meant they had a better chance to survive. Ramattra also does not seem past damaging or killing omnics that oppose the war, based on how the Paris attack had civilian omnics in the crossfire, assuming that omnic was sentient like Ramattra or Zenyatta or Bastion.
Ramattra is basically: "join us in our only chance at survival: fighting for the right to exist. If you are willing to oppose us, then perish, you only hinder our chances of survival."

For Sigma, I agree that he has been split across some plane of existence. Either split across multiple dimensions, timelines, or jumping between points in his own life time at random. Due to the memory issues (in a voice line interaction he thought he was in the past, going to meet up with Mercy) I think his conciousness may be jumping between random points in his own life time. One minute he is 45. Then next 60. The next 10. The next present day at 62. All that would be very confusing. Or maybe he is jumping between/experiencing multiple timelines at once. He and Tracer have a lot in common chronal disassociation wise.
Also note, he asks a lot of philosophical questions about "knowing the unknown" (can a fish realize its in water if it has never left the water, simulation, knowing when to ask if you know not, can man truly know they know nothing…), and he says seemingly random things (meeting the iris, an ant on the ceiling–oh look! Another one!), but I think Sigma is speaking in riddles, hinting at new lore. Ants are Zen and Ramattra's favorite animals, for example.
A heap vs non heap is one of Sigma's lines. Apply it in practice: When does an ant colony become a super organism intelligence? How many ants does it take to make a superorganism? Omnics and sentience and intelligence are huge to ow lore. How many omnics does it take to be a sentient superorganism?
And with him "meeting" the iris? The iris may be an acended (yellow light exploded from her form, iris is yellow) Aurora. Maybe Aurora actually became the Iris, in an attempt to halt the anubis drones. Maybe Aurora gave up her individual personhood/sentience to become a "higher intelligence ai" similar to anubis, loosing her life, but in turn the Iris can "take over" omnics just like Anubis can, but instead the Iris plants sentience into the drone omnics. …making iris sentient omnics a tad bit like a hive mind. It's said in comics when one omnic dies, all omnics can feel that loss, after all. I def think Sigma is hinting at things when he rambles.
I already loved the crap out of the relatively simple Archives missions, cant wait for the lore hose to be turned on again

Referencing the Michael Bay Transformer movies I like to think of Doomfist as Megatron yk he is the most popular villain and he has a lot of power but sometimes or maybe even most of the time he isn't the main antagonist Reaper, Moira, and Widow seem to app fill the role as characters like shockwave soundwave and ofc starscream Ramattra seems more like The Fallen or Lockdown but it also has the same feeling of always having a higher power it seems like in those movies especially the newer ones and even the old ones it was always pretty hype to see Megatron at the end of those movies somehow survive whatever he went through I would like to see Doomfist fill that role
I think it will be "the mother" A.I. since even Rammattra is against it.
I want to see how Vishkar plays into all of this. I want someone who uses Hardlight in Malicious or evil ways as a direct counter to Lifeweaver. Sym is an agent, but I have this Neutral good vibes, so it would be cool to see Vishkar across the spectrum. Though I doubt a big corp would make Big Corpa the ultimate bad guys.
On a sidenote, I also want a long interaction between Ram and LW, Maybe the Biolight is a way for the Omnics to reproduce and continue as a species! A little food for thought.
Doomfist is definitely the endgame villain. Rammatra seems more like a misunderstood omnic who is fighting for the freedom of his people, meanwhile Doomfist is actively going out of his way to lead the world into chaos.

The take on Rammatra is super interesting, that Anubis might be the reason for his violence. I feel like that might explain too how Zenyatta and Ram grew apart since they considered each other brothers once. And yes, there is a gian potential within Sigma and I hope to see more there!
Sigma is like the scarlet witch in the sense that he's basically a multiversal meltown that's on an invisible timer. once sigma snaps he will be the reason that the overwatch universe falls, as for anubis i do think it would be a little disappointing if that was the big bad behind the curtain for overwatch since it's literally if the cave johnson head from Aperture desk job was the big bad the whole time and there's the fact that null sector already fills that role in a much more compelling way. i think anubis could be used as a transitional villain like if Ramattra out of desperation uses his nano tech to fuse with the anubis mainframe and it takes him over but that would require them to outright write ramattra out of the story at that point
The end boss is going to be……….. Bastions bird GANYMEDE!
