From the best-selling novel comes a captivating mystery. Where the Crawdads Sing tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. For years, rumors of the β€œMarsh Girl” haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya from her community. Drawn to two young men from town, Kya opens herself to a new and startling world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately cast by the community as the main suspect.   17. I think a true appreciation for this movie would have to come with fresh eyes and ears as in you never read the book. I know movies can’t move as slow and detailed as a book but I believe books such as WTCS should be digested slowly and needed more time, like a mini series. ( Little Fires Everywhere is a good example of that ). The police played a much bigger role in the book, Jodie as a child played a much bigger role, and I hate to say it, but the Marsh also played a much bigger role. Other than her drawing plants and insects, I did not see a honest to God oneness with the Marsh and Kya. Just a girl who lives there by circumstance and knew how to draw. This movie, while it was very well acted out, was rushed and disjointed. It was well produced but did not grab me emotionally like Pride and Prejudice (2005) or Little Fires Everywhere, both fantastic book to screen productions. All the characters were acted out beautifully the movie just needed more time and attention to the wonderful details as laid out in such a beautifully written and well thought out book.

  31. Watching this very touching movie for the second time. It's a beautiful story. Her relationship with her surroundings, is unjustifiably inhumane by them all towards her, for the most part, so it's with marshland nature by herself instead. What kind of country, and definitely hasn't changed. It doesn't matter how wealthy, if that's the way it is.
