  1. "So, in the end, despite having one of the largest air forces in the world, Russia likely just doesn't have a large enough aircraft to really make a huge difference in a war against a country as large as Ukraine." Really? That's your conclusion? That seems to completely ignore all the other factors that you discussed at length and gives their leadership a pass. It seems more consistent with the details presented that they are unable to effectively _bring to bear _a large enough force to overwhelm Ukraine. There's a lot of evidence that the maintenance state of Russian equipment is way, way worse than expected. Not discussed in the context of the air force is the issue of morale. The ground forces are known to be suffering terribly. Why would we assume the air force would be immune?

  2. Simple Logic would tell us they are hesitating engaging the much much larger airpowers in Europe…..mostly for their own survival …………..That's how incredibly weak Russia is

  3. Main reason is that Ukraine has very big Air Defence, USA never faced with such air defense like Russia was in Ukraine. Each modern NATO war was with countries that has very poor air defence (Iraq, Yugoslavia, Syria, Afghanistan).

  4. When president Ronald Reagan was president he broke the back of the Russian economy.the Russian military was not paid for months.russian pilots had to share housing with other Russian pilots.at that time only Russian pilots were paid but not on regular basis

  5. People who never payed attention during historical events of military engagements are somehow surprised that Russia is having a hard time in Ukraine. Did you guys really think they would be able to walk into Ukraine within a month and end the war? The US fought in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan for over 10 years, the USSR failed in Afghanistan, Britain had issues with Malaysia and France and China lost to Vietnam. The Ukraine war is not the first time a stronger opponent is struggling. It also seems as if you guys ignored the state of the Russian economy after sanctions since the Obama era, which made maintaining and building their military ridiculously difficult. None of what’s going on should be surprising, but somehow “we overestimated the Russian military capabilities” is a headline on every video since February.

  6. It's facing western weapons. Ukraine IS nato. they are trained by nato using nato weapons. russia is weak compared to nato. how will china compare? i would imagine just as weak relative to our "expectations". We are the aggressor, and we shouldn't want it any other ay.

  7. Russia Airforce fighterjets are low altitude in order avoid Radar detection from the Ukrainian S300 and Buk missile and means Russia Airforces have just copycat Israel method low altitude order to avoid radar detection

  8. If Russia used their air force in Ukriane they would lose way too many aircraft. The US and NATO are monitoring all the skies around Ukraine and Ukraine will be warned way before a Russian war plane could even get close to the border.

  10. That’s just how the modern battlefield work nowadays where Air Force regardless of countries including the US would have problems against litters of manpad carrying green camouflage soldier, with the capabilities and infrastructure to produce them. This is not Afghanistan where Taliban are very conservative with their stinger launcher because they can’t replace them easily. But countries with infrastructure to produce manpad and its ammunition would be less conservative to an extent. Sure hitting SPAA launcher is effective they’re not tiny mobile guys who can literally hide in a tunnel or ditch in a forest line and just hop pop and go

  11. I think the goals have changed since the start of the war, Russia wanted and expected a quick victory hence not destroying the main airforce body, also when the war dragged on and the implementation of a new air defence systems for ukrain , made the Russian airforce job quite difficulty.. so in essence there is very little to no comparison with the Iraq war, as different goal were thought at each time.
Also if we consider the Russian doctrine it's quite different from their western counterparts, as not relying on air force as much as ground force eg artillery, as we witnessed this in their numerous conflicts.

  12. There are just too many S300 systems scattered throughout Ukraine. Also USA has equipped Ukraine with 100s of Stinger missile launchers. Even USA could not gain air superiority over Ukraine. The airspace is just too well defended. NATO designed Ukraine's air defense infrastructure to be able to repulse any enemy attempt to gain the skies.

  14. Don't need it. Russia is not like the U.S. who goes in guns blazing not caring who they kill (i.e. Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, etc, etc, etc). I think Putin actually hopes someone comes to their senses and takes Zelensky out in favor of someone who is not a Banderas worshipping neo-nazi fascist and is willing to negotiate realistically. Russia has plenty of sorts going now with low flying su-25 and helicopters and missile fired at infrastructure from mig-31 and tu-195, I believe those are. There is no need to bring out the top of line fighters when you don't need them, that's something Zelensky does, burns thru weapons like changing socks! Yes, there is enough Russian aircraft to do the job, they are and will win this conflict. If you listen to western media, then I'm sorry that it's misinforming you. But independent journalist from around the world have been reporting from Ukraine and they say it's pretty bleak. Even Zelensky's general said if he didn't get 300 tanks, 500 howitzer, etc he would lose the conflict and he's getting 14 tanks from G.B., maybe 44 from Germany (maybe 44 more later), and no tanks from the U.S. until at least a year from now! The conflict will be over by fall. But the U.S. and NATO and some EU countries started this conflict in 2008, which the West doesn't want you to remember, and Russia is going to finish it. I am just sorry that many people on both sides will die because of the insane obsession with Russia that the neocons running the show in the U.S. have, and the proxy, Zelensky who is a fascist and neo-nazi lover who will kill all his soldiers to hold a stupid strip of land. That is the height of psychotic behavior.

  15. Russia has no room to complain about NATO nations donating old soviet jets to Ukraine. During Korean war and Vietnam not only did they supply both countries with the most modern jets but Russian Pilots to fly them.

  16. its still there they just dont have enought pilots for all the planes 😀 its Russia after all so most likely all the money for training new pilots were pocketed by someone anyway

  17. Another big difference between Iraq and Ukraine is that large parts of Iraq are uninhabitable desert. meaning that the valid targets in Iraq were much closer together in Iraq and much more difficult to disperse.
