Where does the Marker in Dead Space Remake come from?

With the Remake out, there are a lot people coming to the game for the first time. So let me hit you with some knowledge: We have no clue where the markers actually initially originated. But what we do know, is the reason its called Dead Space is because humanity is the only species currently space fairing, but we find instances of other ancient civilizations that got bodied but there doesn’t seem to be any information on where they went. When the black marker touched down on Earth virtually wiping out all the dinosaurs, our species would arise, to be its undoing. In todays episode, lets discuss some Dead Space!

  1. So theres a stuttering in this video. My recording software apparently decided to wear the brown pants on this one. Wonderful. Gonna need to fix that when I start covering their biology lol Also I mixed up Altman being infected with the other Scientist so disregard that. I was at about 48 hours into the fast at that point and running off of memory of the lore XD

  2. 5:05 I'm curious where you found this?

Tldr: Dr Grote Guthe mistakenly injects himself with Necromorph No-No Juice tm and reaches the Marker to halt the infection's progress. He is force multiplied in the face, and his body is sent to be dissected. Guthe's corpse finishes mutating into an infector and begins creating slashers.
Michael Altman survives the outbreak, but the government captures him. Inform him about the founding of Unitology before executing him. They give him a spoon to defend himself and locks him in a room with a large necromorph.

In Dead Space Martyr, the first prequel novel, it was Dr Grote Guthe that accidentally infected himself not Altman. He and his team had deciphered the genetic code that the Black Marker was transmitting, and inserted it into some cells to see if they could cultivate them for further testing. He had a sample on his table where he ran a few rudimentary tests like electrocuting it and cutting it in half.
Guthe then hallucinated his grandmother who warned him about the Marker and how dangerous his work was. He proceeded to have an emotional episode because his lab and science were the only things he had in life. The Marker was already messing with his mind and he hadn't slept in several days. Guthe was desperate to get his "grandmother" to stop yelling at him, so he looked for a sedative, and it was just his luck! There was some sedative already in a pool on the table! He proceeded to inject the grown cells directly into his arm.

I don't think ppe helps when you inject Space Aids into your arm.

He soon realizes that he's in deep shit, so breaks into the Marker room, when he enters the dead space the infection is paused in his arm.
    Hooray 🎉
The head of security walks in and puts a bullet between his eyes.
    RIP
His corpse is removed from the dead space to be dissected where it finishes mutating into the first infector, and then all Hell broke loose.

Michael Altman had to fight through multiple slashers, and something that was made out of multiple corpses before escaping. He later returned to the facility. I think it was to sink it into the Chicxulub crater where the Marker was found. Altman survived this as well, but is captured by the government. They tell him about how they plan to create Unitology with Altman as their supposed founder and martyr of the church.
After that he is given a spoon to use as a weapon. Altman desperately tries to sharpen the spoon before being put in a room with a large necromorph. The novel ends with the necromorph charging him.

I'm not sure if there is some retcon in one of the games or if maybe the novel was the one that retconned how Michael Altman died. I just remember that it was someone else that was infected and that Altman was killed by the government.

  3. Fun thought, also: The brother moon DLC doesn't make much sense if you consider that the entire population of the Moon was going to be used to start convergence. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't already a brother moon by the end of the base campaign, with how fast everything happened there.

  4. Hey have you ever thought about remastering your older work for example the Spartans or elites from halo not that those are bad videos I love them but like you said at the end the quality from then to now is just night and day! But keep up the great work love the videos

  6. I know it’s not dead space but I have an audible recommendation if you’re interested!! It has a cross between super soldier serum and modified Ebola virus that create highly mutagenic monsters that basically bring about an extinction level event for the planet! And maybe make a good video break down if you think you can handle the challenge of covering a book series!!

  7. Hay Roanoke, I wonder if you could do the Prototype series. I would like to hear you opinion on the Blacklight and Redlight viruses and how they could possibly give their hosts their abilities and how it changes a person's body.

  8. Hi Roanoke. Here is an idea for ya
Berserker hypothesis, where markers are simply built by different civilization to ensure noone can endanger them. And brother moons are simple compex drones that are doing the job

  9. So granted I haven't played the remake yet so I don't know if they changed it, but in the originals at least the only mention of the marker making things intelligent and messing with evolution come from unitologist propaganda, and even then it was phrased as a theory not doctrine, until I get more evidence than a unitologist trying to convince me the marker was the actual origin of humanity and that's why u should worship it, I always wrote it off as idiotic and propagandistic but apparently the youtube community disagrees

  10. EarthGov had a ship just hanging out in the system in case anyone found the Marker. They buried it after realizing the zombie problem during generator testing on the planet decades ago. When something went wrong on the Ishimura, which they may have suspected to be in the area, they embedded an agent in the repair team. Possibly they sent the ship of marines in at the same time the crew arrived to wait for the agent’s signal on wether or not the marker had been disturbed. If the agent discovered the marker had been disturbed, their objective changes to recontainment and purging those effected by it. They might’ve had a facility elsewhere ready to do that, or the agent was being effected and her mind was altered to make her want to move the marker to somewhere more populated. You saw what happened to the marines when they got close.

  11. I feel like the Red Markers being more aggressive could be explained by the fact that they are new. The Black Marker is very old and as such, could have dwindled in it's capacity to perform. This is supported by the fact that in Dead Space 3, you find multiple deactivated Markers on Tau Volantis that are over 2 million years old and don't do anything. The Red Marker on Aegis 7 and Titan Station were performing very well and the Sprawl Marker even started early convergence before Isaac stopped it.

  12. I know this'll probably go under the radar, but could you explore exactly how flubber works as a organism? I know it's literally impossible, but it be interesting to explore and could even talk about how the guy should be put on a list because he has URANIUM on standby and makes the first man made living organism. Intelligent life might I add and a sentient AI.

  13. So they totally changed the story between Isaac and Nicole? Great, not buying now. I get adding to the story, but to totally change the reasons for the maim characters to do things? Yeah, no thanks Disney.

  14. I have a different theory on the origin of the Brethren Moons and here's how it goes –

Millions of years ago in the Milky Way galaxy, there was an intelligent civilization that was essentially a hivemind, multiple beings comprising one consciousness and intelligence. This intelligence wanted to advance as much as possible but realized that in it's current form, it will not be able to do so as it lacked the brainpower required to comprehend higher concepts. The hivemind realized that rather than spread-out and separated individuals connecting to form the hivemind, if the beings themselves were to form into one, then their brainpower would increase significantly (Think of it as one giant, powerful computer instead of multiple smaller computers connected via the internet). To do so the hivemind created the Markers, machines which can reanimate tissue and mold it it's basic form. The Markers transformed the planet's inhabitants to usable tissue and once enough was accumulated, it began convergence and combined all the life into one super-being, the Brethren moon (small computers merged into one giant computer). This first Brethren Moon then sent markers across the galaxy so that new moons could form and connect to it, further increasing their unified intelligence.

And so the process continued until the aliens on Tau Volantis froze their moon from becoming whole and halted the process. The rest of the Brethren Moons went into hibernation while the baby Tau Volantis moon communicated via the markers to trick someone into releasing it by spreading the messages "Make Us Whole" and "Turn It Off". The "Turn It Off" message actually appears in the Dead Space Remake as a log so I assume that the Aegis 7 marker was probably under the influence of the Tau Volantis moon.

And that is my theory. It does have some holes though. For example, it does not address how the moons move in space oy why they are evil to begin with.
