Since I knew how to skip this quest and go straight for the crown by clipping through walls with whirlwind sprint and an objects I don't even bother picking them up.
There was only ONE stone that you could get locked out of and it has since been officially patched. It was in the embassy. Now the stone is ALWAYS in the cave you exit out of. You can enter that cave and get that stone at any time now.
I feel alone in liking this quest, but I enjoy mercantilism in Skyrim also . I never do it all at once, but I know where they all are at this point, and grab them whenever I'm close.
You think this is bad. Try doing the riddler trophys in arkham night after you complete main story. My tip is dont collect any till you are 100% all in
1200 hours of Skyrim, and I have never actually completed this quest. I think it's the only thing left in Skyrim that I have never done, and likely will never do.
Can anyone tell me if the reward is actually worth it in the end? I don't care about spoilers at this point.

The "Meridia's beacon" quest is also extremely annoying.

It may be the worst quest, but it has the best reward. Also, nothing like a simple mod to put quest markers on the Stones to help out.
This is why I mod Skyrim… I’ve never done the quest tho
I tried and the 30 Nimroot is easy. Dump the Jewels, it's impossible in one lifetime.

I use a mod to remove those stones and disable the quest, also use destroy tthe thieves guild because they suck and no one likes them! ^^

A difficult quest, but a fantastic reward
This quest isn't too bad once you know about the duplicate glitch.

Ah yes! I'm currently playing a toon in Skyrim myself. Every time I see one of those gems sitting in a room, I don't walk away — I RUN!
