When the memories come flooding back : Oxygen not included Ep2

It’s easy to forget just how many little mechanics you have to grasp in ONI to make even a simple base. It explains why this game has kept such a strong following for all this time, quality always shines through.

  1. FJ, please fix Skinny Speaks' schedule. They get a morning bonus, and that's where you scheduled their downtime and sleeptime. Also, full automation sounds great for endgame. A life of luxury for your duplicants, with relaxation and games to play, with all the working mechanisms hidden away from their happy faces.

  2. Every ONI playthrough I've wondered; is there a reason you don't put your initial three dupes on separate work cycles straight away? I always do that just so I know that there'll always be at least one worker no matter what time it is and I can get away with only one bathroom on the first day or two if required. Obviously that's not a requirement to succeed, I'm just curious.

  4. It makes sense. Pretty sure Randy passed through an Archotech Nexus and ended up in the printer pod… Now only if duplicants could research how to be dupliannibals…

  5. 19:44 You STILL get the fuel request threshold wrong! It means: "If coal in generator < x%". Not "If power < x%".
So 90% is bad, because dupes will start running to deliver 20ish tons of coals all the time!
Edit: obviously kilos, not tons 😀
Edit2: Explanation: makes a lot more sense this way also, since this slider is available when there is no smart battery is hooked up.
( and 26:30 NO, NO, NO, that is not how it works! )

  6. You should always use a double layer of insulation for a constant source of heat.
In this case the overpressure will stop the source of heat,
but remember that insulation tiles still do slow heat exchange with non-insulation neighboring tiles.

  7. Love that you're back to ONI. I think full automation is very possible, you just have to utilize designs like SPOM, Petro Boiler, water boilers, and something similar for melting metals on the map and cooling them automatically. Standard stuff, except that last one which I'm not sure you've done before en masse.

  9. It's fun to see you, of all people, go back to this game after a year-long break and feeling lost, slowly regaining all your training and memories. Welcome to the club 😀

  10. "You only ever need one artist" – I just learned the hard way that excavating fossils qualifies as a digging decorating and research errand, so putting a cross in the researcher's decorating errands priority will probably prevent them from excavating fossils. In my case, my artist was a yokel, so I had to skill up my researcher to masterworks artist skill to get them excavated.

Regarding draining jumbo batteries – you can use a transformer, especially when they're neatly placed on a leaf branch of the power circuit (ie. no consumers beyond them on the same branch).

  11. I always like to set all dupes to life support priority up 1 so that they always want to deliver algae to the oxidizers and filtration medium to filters since it’s technically a life support task.

  12. If I remember correctly the mod "DGSM – Duplicants Generation Settings Manager // by @Ony" is slightly bugged and you only get dupes with 1 good / 1 bad trait. Might need to use the mod "RePrint" to get more interesting dupes later on.

  13. I think you're confused on the generator. I always thought you did 95% max threshold on the smart battery and 100% on coal generators in the past. The generator will only request coal if a) it gets a green signal – during red signal it is disabled so will not request, b) the battery is below 100% threshold (it always is) and c) the generator will only request coal once empty, so they won't be constantly coming by to try to "top it off"; they'll still only go to fill it once the coal is all burned off.

  14. Think you'll be able to do a complicated challenge: No care packages, and no teleporters. Highest difficulty (max all the ravenous hunger, stress, radiation etc) All achievements. No hatch, or shove vole ranching. Keep using the super sustainable throughout the playthrough. Only use the research reactor to get the infinite storage of nuclear waste (don't connect it to the power grid.) And lastly no berry sludge. Starter asteroid is up to you.
Gotta say the best playthrough you had was the radiated ocean asteroid max difficulty run 😉 And you're the only one i actually follow on youtube, so hope you'll do this one^^
Didn't see my previous comment, so unsure if this'll be a double comment

  15. Oxygen supply… hoh boy, there are some fun ones out there. My favorite is the polluted water bottle pit feeding into six puft ranches and two rows of deodorizers on top of it all. ^_^
